Gods, people! If you want to know about any given candidate's positions/platform, go to their website and READ all about it. Honestly, speeches are intended mostly for the purpose of rallying the base and hopefully gaining some ground with undecided voters. There is no policy there. The policy statements are on their websites for the whole world to read. So, go read...

Sure, why not? But, there's no reason we can't learn together here on ATS.

If you want to know more about Obama, do as I have done. Watch his speeches, read his website, listen to the debates and decide for yourself. That's my advice.

See there problem, that I can see, for this approach is that Obama (or any politician, I guess) won't say if his ideas are his own, that is, original. I wonder why people love him so much? Has another politician already had these ideas that Obama has? In short, is Obama original and new? Like I said, this is something Obama (or any politician) will not admit to not being (if he/any politician isn't). Thus, relying on his speeches, websites and other things that make him look good will not suffice.

Now, you can listen to everyone else with all their biased opinions, perceptions and contexts... or you can DENY IGNORANCE by educating yourself and making your very own decision. I highly suggest the latter.

As do I, but let's discuss and learn together. As a side note, I will (hopefully) respond in detail to this thread later.

Peace is a wonderful thing, but pacifism is idiotic and dangerous, especially considering the world of uncertainty we find ourselves living in today. Obama has a naive perception of the world, that in itself is dangerous, and is further proof that he is not fit to lead the most powerful nation on earth.

So are you saying you rely more on McCain for change?

There are two types of change. Change for the better and change for the worse. McCain as POTUS with a Democratic Congress will almost guarantee we won't have much, if any, change for the worse. Everything that's done will need to be negotiated towards some middle ground.

On the other hand, Obama with a Democratic Congress almost guarantees a change for the worse. It's not so much he's inexperience that's a problem, it's his naivete. He's making up plans that were drawn up in Ivy League classrooms by professors who are long on theory and short on any REAL world success.

This is a recipe for disaster, especially with a weak economy and unstable situation in the Middle East.

Why must you resort to name-calling?

It would be very easy for me to retaliate, but I won't. Here's a video where Barry O. talks about weakening the U.S. military, having a goal of NO nuclear weapons, and vowing not to have weapons in space.

My least favorite lines:

"I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems."

Why? How can the missile defense systems be "proven" if he cuts investments in them?

"I will slow our development of future combat systems."

Not cool.

"I will set a goal of a WORLD without nuclear weapons."

Why does Barry O. fantasize the Russia and China could be trusted to tell the truth about not having nuclear weapons?

"A global ban on the production of fissile material"

He's an idiot as well. Fissile material is used in nuclear power plants.

in politics there are no new ideas, and when a politician speaks people expect them to lie, except for the niave.

I think the same way. However, in an attempt to be original, one could state exact plans to bring about change he/she preaches about.

once upon a time there used to be a difference between Democrat and Republican these days no difference.

so i guess it doesnt matter who you vote for both candidates are going to screw you over

Two parties, one goal eh?

Oh yea, I forgot. We have to wait till he becomes President before he starts fixing America's ills.

That's a good point.

The guy has more power now than he will as President. The media loves him. He is a star. Congress would have no choice but to go with the flow. In addition, the Democrat led Congress would look like asses for not passing the legislation that their adored candidate has proposed.

This makes sense to me.

Why?

I am very inspired by him. He is thoughtful and nuanced. Not like any politician I have ever seen.

I like your conviction. Please, though, tell me why you feel this way. What of his ideas for the future of America and etc.?

Revamping the administration is automatic. Every new president revamps the administration. That is the same as Obama's pledge to "reduce the number of abortions". Uh, yeah! Every candidate is for reducing the number of abortions.

That's good to know.

Regardless of how you feel, we will be dependent upon oil for another decade. All candidates are in favor of alternative fuels; Obama is only for alternative fuels. That shows his lack of knowledge about energy issues.

Wow, that's interesting.

Thanks for sharing, all! I will continue reading this thread later.

If people like you don't change your idiotic way of thinking we are gonna parish
together as fools. You are truly lost and truly blind my friend. People with only a naive
perception of the world don't make the world dangerous. Professional murderers with nuclear bombs and fools blind to true evil makes the world a more dangerous place. So your solution is to keep piling evil actions on top of evil actions till we destroy ourselves.
If America is the most powerful nation on earth why don't it use it's power to
make earth a better place, by making people recognize true evil, or leading by
example. Smart people like you are steering the world towards total destruction with
your way of thinking. Don't you think it's time to hit the brakes? Let's see how smart you are.

Theres no political sides. Only one side exists. McCain and Obama are equally as corrupt. They will just enslave us in different ways.

Again, theres no political side, they're all scum.

let me say i am a republican. i am i do believe bush was terrible, im not a fan of mccain. but obama scares me. what i love though is so many people on this site seem to condem mccain and bush(cant blame blame you on bush) yet when it comes to actually asking people why they support obama they have no response. theres a few people here how have defended obama, but there rationale was he wants change. i tell you if people had to write a page essay on why they were voting for obama he wouldnt come close to winning because all people have is to say is "change" and they have no idea where he stands. mccain sucks, but at least you know it.

Obama’s cool. This is how it goes:
Obama takes money from the rich and gives it to the poor. Obama takes money from businesses and gives to the poor. The rich get tired of doing so much work for the same money the poor get so they quit and retire and go on social security. Small Businesses don’t have enough money left to operate so they liquidate and close their businesses and live off savings, then welfare then social security. Now nobody works and there is nothing to buy. The government has no money because there is nobody to tax so the politicians sell the USA to china, take the money and retire on the Rivera. The Chinese round up all Americans and make them build a great wall around the USA. Obesity is gone, everyone has a 6-pack. They train the survivors on how to win gold medals in the next Olympics.
Obama’s Cool.

In short, are they that inspiring, original and etc.? Are his ideas the sole reason his message is change? Does the hype exist simply because of his message? Or does it mainly boil down to him being African American? Should I vote for him because him being African American implies change and all that? Or are his ideas really that amazing? I need to know
! Enlighten me
. Thanks!

I get concerned when people allow sites like this to influence something as important as their voting decision

Unless you have a hidden agenda, which is more likely the case.

It would appear that the only fool here is the one who is ignorant of current world affairs and realities.

If America is the most powerful nation on earth why don't it use it's power to

I do not proclaim the United States to be perfect. But even with all our imperfectness, you would be hard pressed to find a nation that has done more positive good for this world, than any other single nation at any time in history.

Smart people like you are steering the world towards total destruction with

The problem with strategically disarming yourself is making sure the other side is willing to do the same. This assumes the other side has more to gain than to lose by doing this. We do not yet live in a world where this is, or can be, a reality. Too many Americans (such as Mr.Obama) are being astonishingly naive and self-loathing in thinking that if not for the current 'US foreign policy', the world would be peaceful and prosperous, and without war. This simply is not true.

Well said and very thorough. It's good of you to point out that no demographic is perfectly homogenous - it's be an outrage to suggest all people of various Latin descent are the same. Where I live it's often an insult to someone from Europe to assume their family came from Mexico or vice-versa.. It should also be said that not all "whites" are of the same background.

Picking a candidate based on race or gender and not on how well he/she will perform is bigotted, regardless of your background. There is a common misconception that if you are part of a "minority" group, you cannot be racist, sexist or discriminatory in any way. This is obviously not true.

I feel Obama is no more than any other politician, and is willing to do, say and endorse whatever it takes to get himself into the White HOuse, and into the history books. I've hear many people claim he should win simply because, "it's time we had a black president." I'd agree wholeheartedly if the candidate in question wasn't putting forth a lot of Marxist ideas, and if the candidate actually seemed to like the U.S.

Change can be good - but it can also be bad. Don't vote for change just for the sake of change. Make sure the change is actually a good one.
