Smart people agree...Democrats are good!!!

Alright, I found this a little bit interesting. I noticed something the other night whenever an old clip of the last presidential race ran. If you look at the map of the states on who voted for whom, you should be able to notice the key areas where the Democrats won. Mainly the Democrats won the Northeast. "Now, what is so great about those areas?" one may ask. I remember seeing charts on the "smartest states" and remembered that some of the smartest states were in the Northeast. I was intrigued to say the least. So, as I researched it more, I found a couple of helpful websites.

This website shows the smartest states by rank. It also has the way they find the ranking. It is a twenty-one point ranking system.

Alright. Once you have looked at both pages, create a list of states that Gore won. There should only be twenty states.

Of the twenty states that voted for Gore, nine of the top ten smartest states voted for Gore. There were two states that were only seperated by a couple thousand votes. Those two were Wisconsin and Iowa. But the rest that picked Gore were seperated by many thousands of votes.

Going the opposite way, let's talk about the bottom fifteen states. Of those fifteen states, twelve of them voted for Bush. Three of the other states voted for Gore, one of which with an extremely thin margin. Also, one of the Bush states was won with a very thin margin. Two of those Gore states had nice leads on the Bush vote. The remaining eleven Bush states were won by a nice margin.

"So what does this have to do with anything, OXmanK?" Well, this information can only lead people to believe one thing. Smart people vote Democrat. That is the only thing that can be drawn from these statistics.

So, this fall, don't be an moron. Vote Democrat!

Heres an idea. why not do what washington told us, and get rid of the political parties. he told us not to form them and what do we do? they've #ed up this country! they're the reason this country is going down hill

agreed. but where do we really go from there? It seem too ingrained in our society that we should have 2 or 3 political parties.

I have no clue where to go from here. Maybe serious campaign reform...The candidates may only spend 10 million in promoting themselves. That's all they can use. Then, the only way to get their word out is by doing debates and tackling the issues so Joe America can see who is most qualified...I have no opinion...

Wow i am surpized Vermont was second. We have a socialistic school funding system where an average is found and any $1 more raised by down, only 50 cents goes to their actual kids, the rest to the "shark pool." Thanks to that, you need a part time job just to pay property taxes, my sister just moved into a modular and has to pay over $5000 a year!

Vermont also has a nice 6% on sales, 10% of meals and hotel roooms, oh so very nice. That property tax is around 4 dollars in my town. Don't forget the city taxes. Dispite all this, our roads and bridges are crumbling.

This has been a HUGE issue: Vermont's #1 export are THE CHILDREN. THERE ARE NO JOBS HERE, no growth, and raising a family here costs thousands more in taxes.

The regulations and permits needed to to anything anywhere is so restrictive, if any neighbor of a neighbor complains, you can't get your building project done as well as a THOUSAND other things. It's taken over 30 years to get the ok to build another 5th of our circ highway around Burlington!!

People love how nice vermont is, all the run down houses and collapsing barns, all the unused farm land that has been farmed for over 200 years being taken over by weed trees. Don't forget most downtowns are desolate.

There is also the hardcore drugs spreading throughout the more depressed areas that are controled by liberals. These people don't have any "income" to be taxed on so, they get all their needs taken care of, while dealing drugs. Heroine, coc aine, as well as pot, are just sweeping accross the board in our schools, cause the dregs of society have stayed behind, while all the brains have skipped to other states like south carolina.

As for the good schools, a friend of mine had a teacher that would smoke a joint in front of his highschool class regularly! Most new teachers here are THE most liberal idiots you'd ever find. Kids here are so brainwashed it isn't funny.

I know this is an old topic...but I'm bringing it back up for Flinx. Plus, I wanted to add a list. I also changed my field of sampling. All it added was one more state and it is a Bush one. I changed it to where I was sampling the states with a plus five or minus five "Smart rating". The numbers are the state's "Smart" ranking.

These are the factors to your "Smart State". This arguement is completely rediculous.

You are running by a scale set by children, and using it to define the adults voting record. Good God this place is starting to suck.

This is a pretty old topic. The only reason I brought it all the way back up to the top is due to Flinx's inability to find the links I used in other topics.

KJ, the entire thing is not set by the children. There are other factors such as high school drop out/graduation rate. However, I know, it is a little cheap...but I am looking for some older lists. If I can find any from 90-94 would be great. I would update the list for you.

Besides, you know as well as I do that the Northeast is a bastion of education. After all, it comes from the importance placed on education from their founders...alot of them had Calvinist ideals. You know those people...the Calvinists...some of the first people in Europe to promote public education...

My point bud, is that regardless of what you find, while it may be interesting, doesn't really show anything. When looking at numbers on the scale you are and considering the difference in education between counties let alone states, you'd be hard pressed to really do anything but put light to bare statistics.

Even if the trend was reasonably constant for the past 20 years you can't discount the scope of education, familial influence, etc. Also, we all know education before college means little in the "intelligence" department.

If you have smart state A where all people are educated and dumb state B. If 60% in A and 40% in B vote democrat, then what does that really say?

I don't trust the "smartest states" listings. Listings like that of the 50 States are always subjective. The states with the largest cities will always have the largest number of college-educated people in it -- because they're the largest cities! Also, large cities also have the part of town known as the "inner city" -- the ghettos where most of the voters are not college-educated and depend on the government for assistance...

What the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election Electoral College map shows me is that the liberal coasts of the U.S. -- the West Coast and the Northeast -- voted for Gore, while the vast middle section of the U.S., which is mostly rural and conservative (Texas does have several large cities though), voted Bush.

I predict that the 2004 U.S. Presidential Election Electoral College map will look very similar to its 2000 counterpart. Politics has become very jaded in the U.S. since the Cold War began (especially after the "dot-com" economic collapse, the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election, and Sept. 11, 2001), so it's gotten to the point nowadays that most people vote the way they're expected to. A liberal college professor is 'supposed' to vote Democrat. A minority on welfare is 'supposed' to vote Democrat. A rural ranch owner is 'supposed' to vote Republican. A business owner is 'supposed' to vote Republican, etc. etc. Do people not think for themselves anymore?
