8 More Shocking Revelations About Sarah Palin

www.alternet.org
1: Palin Tried to Ban Books From Local Library
2: Palin Apparently Doesn't Put "Country First" (she is/was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a sessionist movement.)
3: Palin's Love Affair With Earmarks
4: Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms
5: Crazy Reverend, Crazy Church (Ed Kalinins preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven)
6: McCain Picking Palin Reeks of Sexism... I will grant this is purely subjective but I also feel that it is fundamentally true.
7: She can't run a car wash (State records show the business ran into trouble with Alaska's division of corporations business and professional licensing after Palin became governor of the state in 2006. it had "not filed its biennial report and/or paid its biennial fees," which were more than a year overdue.April 3, 2007, the state went further and issued a "certificate of involuntary dissolution" because of the car wash's failure to file its report and pay state licensing fees.)
8: She lied about foreign travel (In an attempt to inflate her nonexistent foreign policy credentials, Palin's spokespeople stated shortly after her nomination that she had traveled to Germany, Kuwait and Ireland: you know, the three countries most likely to give rise to catastrophic national security emergencies in the next four years. But not only is Palin's travel history unimpressive, it was also being blatantly misrepresented. According Jim Aravosis, an Irish blogger has just revealed that Palin was in Ireland for a brief refueling layover.)

The title of the book is derived from his surmons "Audacity of Hope".

I posted this on Justin Oldman's ongoing thread Clinton, Obama or Edwards? Who will it be? this morning:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

The most interesting thing about McCain choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate is this:

He chose a relatively inexperienced state politician who happens to be very pretty. And that is I think, the reason he chose her was her looks... young, pretty and feminine. More proof as if there isn't enough already that McCain just does not get it no matter what it is... in this case the appeal to women voters.

The reason I say this is that if he wanted to chose a conservative woman VP there are plenty out there with far more knowledge than Ms. Palin, Kay Bailey Hutchinson comes immediately to mind for one. I disagree with her on just about everything but that she has considerable experience is undeniable.
Olympia Snowe of Maine is another, though she is far more moderate than the right wing extremists who have hijacked the Republican party like... and then there is Elizabeth Dole.

Each of those three choices would say to women voters that McCain was taking them far more seriously than the Palin pick

I stand by that statement... If he really wanted to attract women voters he would have chosen someone of substance.

As it is the only reason he did chose a woman was to try and cull some disgruntled supporters of Clinton... if that weren't a possiblity for him odds are it would have been another old rich white man.

This is a pretty weak list:

"1: Palin Tried to Ban Books From Local Library" -- Unspecific. Asserted by a political opponent. Uncorroborated by the librarian in question.

"2: Palin Apparently Doesn't Put "Country First"" --

Members of 'Fringe' Alaskan Independence Party Incorrectly Say Palin Was a Member in 90s

""Gov. Sarah Palin first registered to vote in the state in May 1982 as a Republican, and she has not changed her party affiliate with the Division of Elections since that time."

"3: Palin's Love Affair With Earmarks" -- I think it's funny that "reform to end the abuses of earmark spending" converts to opposition to any earmark spending.

Where is it demonstrated that the purposes for which she used federal earmarks were abusive?

"4: Palin Slashed Funding for Teen Moms" -- Yes. Reduced the budget by 20% of a single home. Note that she didn't eliminate it.

I could just as easily argue that was yet another example of her fiscal conservatism.

"5: Crazy Reverend, Crazy Church" -- I dislike religious nuts as much as the next guy. But, really, there is no comparison to this guy's rhetoric and Rev. Wright's.

There are nuts....and then, there are nuts. I think I can confidently identify which one of the two is the larger nut.

"6: McCain Picking Palin Reeks of Sexism" -- Pure opinion...and it really helps when you manufacture the position that it's "McCain's idea that women will vote for the McCain/Palin ticket just because Palin has a vagina"

Where exactly did McCain say that?

Moreover, if you believe that to be true, why get so worked up about it? Doesn't that assure Obama a victory?

"7: Palin Can't Even Run a Car Wash" --

News flash. Businesses miss registration deadlines all of the time. Trust me.

How that translates into "Can't Even Run a Car Wash" is laughable.

"8: Lied About Foreign Travel" -- Well, let's see.

In the narrative, the travel statements are expressly attributed to Palin's spokespeople and not Palin herself. So *she* didn't really lie, did she?

Moreover, from their own link:

Sarah Palin's abrupt appearance on the national stage sparked an enormous array of questions, one of which is: Has she ever traveled abroad?

I asked her new spokeswoman, Maria Comella, who noted that Palin visited Germany and Kuwait in 2007 to visit Alaska National Guard troops.

Comella said she'd also visited one other country: Ireland.

Source.

So the new spokeswoman, Maria Cornella, stupidly embellishes an Ireland visit.

Ok....so maybe one out of eight.

---

What an obvious hit piece designed to mislead the many who do not have time to actually dig into each of these ridiculous assertions.
