Speaking of a calamity, there apparently was a security incident in the crowd during her speech:
0:45 p.m. A pair of Code Pink activists just got to the very edge of the stage and were a moment away from apparently running on stage, right by the Kentucky slot on the floor next to a host of McCain's most senior staffers.

Good grief. How in the hell does this happen at an event like this?
Yes, I saw them escorting one of them out of the hall.
They should have let them get on stage. It would have been fun watching Sarah whuup their arses!

She's good, but more of a "reporter on the scene" kinda good.
Tonight was easy for her, it was all one-sided, but the debates?
Biden will eat her alive...

No specifics on policy at all, interestingly.
I thought she got off to a good start, and then trailed into partisan vitriol and BS...
This kind of stuff plays well to their hard-right base, but I expect it will lose then support among independents. All the Republicans were playing to the hard right tonight in general, not just Palin.
But most of the country isn't hard-right, and I don't think they really understand that.
IMO the Republicans lost the election tonight - not Palin's speech specifically, but the nasty chiding tone that typified all the speeches from Romney's onward...

She did a good job. I was impressed because I thought she may come out robotic or tense considering the trashing she has taken in the press all week, but she held her head up and came across confident and even fired back some shots of her own.
Palin comes across as a genuinely decent human being. I hope politics do not get the best of her..

She performed as expected - rallied the troops and showed her stuff. An excellent first performance imho.
But regardless of the presentation, regardless of strength she is still an evangelical Protestant who opposes a woman's right to choose and has an expressed more than an interest in teaching creationism in the public schools.
Not a snowballs chance she will get my vote.

Absolutely. She's brilliant, isn't she?
And to think, Obama and his team have been so unashamedly triumphalist in recent weeks.
How silly and embarrassing is that going to seem looking back?
McCain + Sarah Palin = Masterstroke
The Republicans will win it.

Sorry but I dont share your excitment...all she prove tonight is that she know how to read words fed to her on a teleprompter, maintain her composure at a high stage, be snide and sarcastic.
We also got a glance and her dreams of pipelines all over the country, even when gas prices are going down but what can you expect, talking about a lady that prays to God for pipelines.
Another thing when she said this
Well, I'm not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I've learned quickly these last few days that, if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.
But -- now, here's a little newsflash. Here's a little newsflash for those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion. I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this great country.

Isn't the same whining that she criticize Hillary Clinton for here
Ridiculous in my opinion!

That is okay that you don't share it
However, I lived in Alaska and saw her speak many many many times. So, what I saw tonight is WHO AND WHAT SHE IS
She may have read a scripted speech on a teleprompter....but the way she delivered it is how she is off teleprompter. Yes, its just my word....but I have seen her for the past few years
The way she deliverd her speach tonight, is the way she will deliver all her debates and interviews.

Loam, you just summarized in three lines what a lot of "experts" and political consultants get paid big bucks to analyze.
I've got another freebie:
Obama's people have it all wrong when they think it's a good idea to attack Palin on the experience front.
The electorate EXPECTS change this election cycle. It's why McCain and Obama are on their respective tickets.
So in this cycle, when you attack someone for not having the experience to be President, you immediately abandon your own 'outsider' status. Rather ironic, huh, coming from the Change Candidate?
Bad move in this environment.

Listening to both sides... I understand where each side is getting their shots. Honestly, I had my sights set on voting for Obama the whole time, however, I can't stand the fact that the Dems keep referring to Palin's 'greatest' experience being that of a city council member. Does experience as govenor not count for anything in this race?
If we are going to dismiss the current position and take the previous, then shall we not say that 1,100 votes and an 12m annual budget is vast as compared to a community organizer?
C'mon dems! Give me something to vote for quick! Quit rebutting everything and take your own stand!!! I really want to vote for you, but you are not giving me substance!
Please make sense of how you expect to get the country out of debt and then reduce taxes for 95%, or just increase taxes for those who make more than 32k or 250k, whatever it is today. Maybe it is increasing business costs and then I lose my job but at least you didn't raise my taxes?
I need answers!

Sadly you failed to realize that this was NOT her speech, she merely did what she has done for her entire political career: Read from a paper that was written by someone else. She is a pretty face used to preach other peoples ideals and policies.
BREAKING: Sarah Palin "Winged" Her Speech Because of "Broken" Teleprompter
Posted by: Erick Erickson

Halfway through Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the RNC, people following the speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.
According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.
Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.
Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.
Sarah Palin. Winner.
