I have a lot of respect for you BUT your statement above its been currently use as tool for those who want to promote drilling and is actually the most intellectually dishonest comment coming out of the GOP, but they think that if they say it enough people would believe it.

700 BILLION !!!! WE ARE GOING TO KEEP 700 BILLION IF WE START DRILLING

Honestly? Lets see, giving the FACT that if we start drilling tomorrow we wont see a drop for at least 10 years, that means that nor McCain or Palin would be in office to see this come to fruition.

700 BILLION is an inflated figures because it refers to oil pricies at a ALL TIME HIGH, I believe that we have oil has seen its PEAK demand, everybody talk about OIL PEAK but few take into consideration DEMAND PEAK, people and governments worldwide are changing their behaviours to expand their sources of energy and conserve, thats why the oil bubble has burst, and it would keep going down, some experts estimate as low as 50 dollars a barrel.

$700 billion today is worth a $trillion tomorrow (10 years tomorrow).

So, even if not, cut it in half. $350 billion. Isn't that worth saving?

Even if we drill that oil is going to be sold in the FREE MARKET, because is all about the FREE MARKET RIGHT?!... so we are going to pay the same amount for the barrel that everybody else in the world does, and if a oil from Saudi is selling at 100.00 and the U.S. is selling at 110.00 guess which one we going to buy here in the U.S.

Why sell it? We can keep it. Sell the excess. Make a profit.

Technology has advanced to make environmental effect very minimal. The earth is under our dominion, we are it's tenders and keepers. We can do it, I am confident.

The problem is that while it is good in theory it won't work in practice. It is too socialist of an idea. The companies that drill that oil own it, not the American public. They can do with it whatever they want.

In a sick way it can be equated to health care or wealth distribution. Why should these companies care if you can't afford gas? It is not up to them, or the government, to provide you with cheap fuel.

If Republicans want to drill so bad they should not try it to sugar coated under the impression that we are going to save 7 BILLION DOLLAR, they should just come out and say that it would create jobs in a dire economy (But thats something McCain wont acknowledge), that would bring more revenue to States and Government and that would improve the quality of life for citizens, and perhaps even save some money.

But this idea of saving 700 BILLION DOLLARS if we drill tomorrow is jus a fallacy directed to those who cant analyze for themselves.

The prime example of my arguement is T Boone Pickens an oil man teliings us that we are addicted to oil and need to move to others sources, how can an OIL BILLIONARE UNDERSTAND THAT OIL IS THE PAST, but politicians and the masses dont?

Shipping our jobs overseas with no tax penalties against the offending corporations, that's GREAT for the economy.
Higher unemployment, that's great for the economy, it makes me feel better because I have a good job.

This is the part that really got me angry. So many Americans are now just zombies and do not understand anything! We need to protect our jobs right now before we dont have any to protect. Anytime a corporation gets big enough to move its operations to a slave wage country they do it after building it on the backs of Americans.

We need stronger unions and strong tariffs. We need our jobs protected.

Yes, there are only two choices.

1. Be energy independant.

or

2. Be subject to the dictates and pressures of the mid-east and Russia.

It's simple, we need to get the oil from our own land and sea area so that we don't have to kneel to the nations who hate us.

So, drill baby drill... drill here, drill now...

Or a third choice.

Get off the oil! We need a leader that has the guts to do this. We can do it. Look up the documentary "Who killed the electric car" it, may just open your eyes.

No more Christian dominionist Joel's army fanatics please.

I see you all are all for ole Rudy and his snake self too. Look up what the Firefighters union has to say about him getting kickbacks on well known faulty radios before Sept. 11. The fact that he buried all those body parts in a landfill. Those heroes did not deserve to die so an ex prosecutor could make a buck.

what your sort often fail to mention when you recite that mantra is the effect doing so will have on the price of oil... which would drop considerably... how come you forget to mention that?

and the effect that all those americans earning a good living from all the new jobs the industry would create... that also somehow gets overlooked... gee, how come?

dems hate success, they hate americans working and making money... americans are only good for being ashamed of themselves and giving our wealth to the rest of the world to repent...

what rubbish.

People keep repeating this nonsense that is feed to them by their leaders as if they cant think for themselves and do some research and dont realize that all they want to do is getting the rich, richer, and pillage and rape the planet to oblivion.

People need to educate themselves before voting, not doing so is utterly irresponsible.

speaking of repetitive nonsense...

so we should simply continue our reliance on foreign, unstable oil and burning coal?

thats it?

and do nothing?

you use the word nonsense ironically....

Your arugument refers to two choices, energy independence or a continued reliance on unsavories for our crude, and then you say so we must start drilling! Well, that is one way of looking at your first choice. What about this scenario: We keep what we are stealing from Iraq and invest billions into forseeable renewable energy resources, and then a couple more billion in developing the unforseen? Is that a compromise?

Who tells you these things?
How can anyone here or anywhere have an intelligent conversation from this premise?
If that's how you feel nothing else really need be said.

We can disagree on so many issues but what can anyone say to something like that?

pay attention to the issues , ignore words and believe deeds...

dems dont want us to drill, for instance, because we wont see results for 10 years?

that is baseless fiction... so what's the real reason?

environmental? they'd prefer to ensure that there is no risk of an oil accident, than see americans work and companies profit.

disagree?

who is the country that is berated for not shelling out the most when it comes to global warming chrades? we have tight emmission standards, other countries can pollute plenty, but it is the states that must pay...

just another example, pay attention to the news, and organisations. i subscribe to all the liberal newsletters, and this is what is wanted. the liberal agenda speaks for itself.

This is ridiculous!!!! You haven't understand anything that I said so far?

I'm all for energy independant, not drilling though. Educate yourself please, on July 12 2008 oil was trading at $147.26 today LESS THAN 2 MONTHS LATER trading closed at $107.85 that's $39.41 in less than 2 months!! Did I miss when we started to drill? Because that I know off we haven't drill at all. Its call demand peak and demand destruction, but the underlining premise that we should not forget is that oil prices can be manipulated easily!! That's why we need to move away from oil.

Oil is traded in the international markets an there is no way around that, we can drill tomorrow and we might be back at paying $147 for the barrel just because the Saudi King has a cold. With that said I truly believe that the oil bubble has burst and that lower prices are coming, drilling won't gives us energy independance, as I posted earlier we are going to add only 3% to global supply, and our dependance on imports is 58%.

You can drill now and we still be paying for the oligarchy in Russia, the theocrazy in Iran, the palaces and artificial islands of the Middle East, or we can move to renewables be the world leader in that industry that would certainly creat jobs across the entire job spectrum and really be energy independant.

I don't know why is so hard to understand for some.

Because what you are saying doesn't fit with the notion they have in their head about how to solve the problem. It is easier to apologize to someone for them being wrong than it is for them being right.

I would spit it back in their face. If Americans are opposed to something these people want and they get all blustery, then they are the ones hating Americans. If they are opposing something that would make America better, then they are the ones hating America. It is such a stupid argument "either you are with us or against us". That is not a totalitarian, Stalinist statement at all.

we can also not drill now and continue to pay the oil barons with no plans to stop

what renewables do you mean? wind? sun? all still amazingly expensive and inefficient, they will not bring independence from anything for decades at least

decades... like when we'd start seeing results of drilling right now, hmmm?

just talking about drilling brought the price down in the market...

we have better construction tech these days, start building refineries, platforms and nuke power plants now.

why not?

there are no good reasons not to, and billions of good reasons to do just that.

offer up some solutions then?

obama has yet to, besides inflating tires properly

why dont you offer something then?

no drilling? no nukes?

then what?

alt energy is decades off from replacing current sources...

so, tell us

Here is one really good reason that you cannot refute. The people doing the drilling, are these same oil barons you talk about in your first statement. Like I said before, they don't a sweet rat's *SNIP* if you get cheap fuel or not. So really by promoting the drilling, you are promoting making these guys even more money.

heres a hint: capitalist greed has ruined the environment

okay, go!
