I'd say that McCain saying that being governor for 2 years doesn't qualify someone is the same as Biden skewering Obama during the primaries.

McCain basically described someone like Palin during the Primaries when he was talking about who was not qualified to be Pres.

So they are about the same if you ask me.

I saw Palin's speech last night. One thing that struck me, about all the speakers, was how much they reminded me of kindergarten teachers. The speeches were very simplistic, with virtually no detail aside from hitting the "key words" or "key concepts" and lots of chanting of the key words in response from the crowd.

Their speaking seems designed to hit emotional hot spots, and they really dont even try to introduce reason into the mix.

"9-11...blah blah blah......religion......blah blah blah..... drilling for oil...blah blah blah.....terrorists...blah blah blah.......values.....blah blah .....big government....blah .......higher taxes..... blah.........government spending....blah blah.... GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!! [cheer...USA USA USA!]

I guess its brilliant if it moves the target audience, and it did seem to do that.

In all fairness, I could do the same sort of summary with a Democratic speech, but the quality of the speech surrounding the talking points is just generally better, and the hitting of the "talking points" a little less in your face.

Let me just add how hateful Guiliani's speech was. And as far as Palin's... well your right they ate it right up but it had absolutely no policy meat to it. We will probably see more of that in McCain's speech...not.

This video is interesting, but on a political level it is of virtually no significance. It only tells us two things:

ONE: That media pundits don't always say what they really think. I don't think that surprises anyone and it has zero political significance.

TWO: That many republican conservatives secretly question the wisdom of choosing Palin for the VP spot, even though you'd never know that from their public statements. That, perhaps, has minor political significance, but I think most people suspected that.

I'm not sure that any conservative out there thinks Palin has sealed the deal for McCain. I certainly don't, but I do think it has well evened the score, if not given the Republicans a bit of an edge due to Obama's pick of Joe Biden.

I still think it's going to be a close race in November.

May I ask what Obama has done? He has authored no legislation, has flip-flopped on every issue, and has written a couple of books. I'm sorry, but some people have a problem with real women who are strong enough to stand up for what they believe in, and have the guts to continue to stand there when the real tests come.

As for "accidental" live-mic incidents, I am honestly at the point where I think it is wrong to air such commentary. Words are typically being spoken in confidence, yet news sources toss all honesty and morals straight out of the window time, and time again.

Wasn't it Christ Matthews that said Barack Obama's speech gave him "tingles up his leg"? Here's his actual quote: “The feeling most people get when they hear a Barack Obama speech, I mean, I get, I felt this thrill go up my leg. I mean, I don’t have that too often.”

Now I do not like labels, but does such a statement not leave a "tingling" sensation of homo-sexuality? I am not calling Chris Matthews a homo-sexual, but his statement does sounds really fruity.

Now remember, Bill Maher is EXTREMELY Liberal, almost to the point where even a Moderate might have difficulty in finding common ground with him. Thanks for that. I'm glad someone is obsessing over the homosexual dimension of things, and figuring out ways to characterize someone as gay. That adds a lot of depth to the discussion.

I suppose you may be right that it probably only really effected Mike and Peggy by peer response directly to them. It is fun however to spotlight the bull we are fed. I, myself, would much rather hear how people really feel about the issues like we see here on ATS. -Although there is some definite pandering to peer response here at times as well. Hence, who can get more flags/stars. Thanks for those by the way everybody.

No meat? Kinda like every single speech Obama has ever given. But you people like fancy meat, so you don't need much, just a "change" here and a "hope" there.

The best part about Palin is it really brings out the hypocracy in this whole thing where as no one was allowed to talk about Obama about just about anything without being ridiculed, now that Palin is in the picture the gloves come off and people are really going after her, even about really stupid stuff. I saw Obama's speach and there was not much policy as there was redorich and the policy that he did hint at are empty promises designed to make the sheep say b a hhhh, if you believe either side is going to be straight with us you are so very naive.

Besides what in Obama's policy is actually good for us anyway? Screw the succesful wealthy and give to the lazy poor, sounds like redistribution of wealth a la commie style. Weakening our military? Is that one of those U.S. helping policies. I don't get it, we will still be in war but now we'll have a war on our economy and our safety and ability to protect ourselves.

Obama does not give any specifics at all, on anything. He can't, because his whole program doesn't make any sense if examined impartially.

There is no possible way he can do all of the things he claims he will do (universal health care, etc.) and only raise taxes on the top 5%. If you took 100% of their earnings, you couldn't pay for one month of universal health care.

He wants to raise business taxes. Who do you think actually pays those taxes? The customers do. Taxes are just passed on to the customers. So, by doubling business taxes (which are already the 2nd highest in the world), he will just rip off the consumers again.

He wants windfall taxes on the oil companies. Once again, hey will just be passed along in the price of gasoline and their toher products. Just what we need, even higher prices at the pump.

There is an old saying, "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch".

Whatever government does has to come right out of the pockets of the people. Government produces nothing, it only takes and spends the money of the people. There has never been a single program run by the government that didn't caost significantly more than the same kind of program operated in the private sector.

Obama says he will bring jobs back to the rust belt. How, by restricting trade? That's the only way he could possibly do this, and if he does that, he will cause a massive rise in prices of cars, machinery, televisions, computers, and all of the rest of the stuff we purchase from overseas.

Clothing would cost at least 50% more if it were all produced in the uS. Televisions and other electronics are not even assembled here any more. Want to go to TV's that cost 3-4 times as much?

How about a $50,000 Chevy? Cause if you cut off all of the imports, that's exactly what will happen.

And how about all of the jobs of the people that make all of the things we export? If you cut off trade, all of those jobs are lost too.

We tried this once before, with the Smoot Hawley tarrif act. This did nothing but prolong the depression of the 1930's

The problem with Obama is that he is a fantastic speaker, but has absolutely no sense of economics or history. He is surrounded by a socialist clique, that has no experience in industry, manufacturing or trade.

They are mainly academic types, with theories that have been a huge mistake in every country that has adopted them. Which is why all of the industrial countries have slowly but surely gotten rid of them.

But, since they have never been tried here, these fools think it will all be different here.

Keep in mind that one definition of mental illness is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting a different outcome each time.

Well this thread was to expose the obvious lies that we see in politics where things are said just to be pc or cater to respective parties. I really don't care how "republican" they are. They are the voice for the republicans and it is sad they don't feel comfortable to really say how they feel. That was my point to this thread. And as another poster wants to accuse me of starting a "hateful" thread I think that is complete bull. These are the people who are "scared."

Sorry Oldmedic not all of this response is for you but I just wanted to respond with one post. Thank you all for your responses even as they are differing. I really am not trying to start a fight with all of the Palin supporters but I am not so naive to think that they wouldn't respond. You all can like her. I just don't think she is "President" materiel. That's right I said President, if McCain passes away she would be our leader. I don't find her the type of leader that represents truely OUR America. I really do believe that Obama will win anyway so this will be a mute point.

Obama represents "OUR" America? Last time I checked, I don't belong to a racist church, I don't have a racist wife, I don't say mean and spiteful things to religious people and gun owners.
