Here is another article: www.reuters.com...
McCain officials said the news of the daughter's pregnancy was being released to rebut what one aide called "mud-slinging and lies" circulating on
liberal blog sites.
According to these rumors, Sarah Palin had faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth in May to her fifth child, a son named Trig who has
Down syndrome. The rumor was that Trig was actually Bristol Palin's child and that Sarah Palin was the grandmother.
A senior McCain campaign official said the McCain camp was appalled that these rumors had not only been spread around liberal blog sites and partisan
Democrats, but also were the subject of heightened interest from mainstream news media.
"The despicable rumors that have been spread by liberal blogs, some even with Barack Obama's name in them, is a real anchor around the Democratic
ticket, pulling them down in the mud in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their 'campaign of change,'" a senior aide said.
Make note of the last paragraph!

No, it isn't enough when I am suspecting her of telling an outright lie about her daughter. But, as you guys have shown, we won't know because we
can't ask for proof. I guess my suspicions will have to just remain.
BTW, it isn't every day that a woman of her age gives birth in the first place either. Granted, it isn't extremely rare, but rare the same.

According to Reuters, McCain campaign officials knew about Bristol's pregnancy during the vetting process and that the rumors surrounding baby
Trig's birth made an announcement necessary.
voices.washingtonpost.com...
Because of these outright LIES, by in my opinion, evil people, this young girl has to suffer
IMHO, I don't think Obama can show anything but compasion for her.
But his minions are less human.
I still cannot believe they started that false rumor,
unbelievable.
by the way since he chose Palin, he has got 10 million worth of donations.

Eh, I had to take a step back for a second and I am hereby removing my remarks. Not from the record but I am willing to recant them in hopes that the
debate can move beyond this crap. I'm not sure who is at the bottom of this entire debacle but it is shameful!
The reason I'm not going to go back and edit my remarks out is so people can still see what was said. I'm not sure who this fault lies with but this
is the absolute height of shame in a political election.
If the Obama campaign cannot set this course straight they are in deep trouble.

I'm not sure how old you are or if you have children but I am the mother of 4 daughters in elementary school, ages 10, 8, 7, and 7, and I know of at
least 4 Moms on the PTA who had their last child at the age of 45. Women are waiting longer to have children and then it may take longer for them to
conceive. It really isn't that 'rare' for women to give birth in their mid 40's.

It actually infuriates me that I was even drug into that sort of junk in the first place. You see, I rely on what I consider to be more reputable
sources for news, ie anything that doesn't require a spinmeistro SPEAKING it to you. I am absolutely livid about this crap! Surely none of the
candidates involved actually had anything to do with this. As someone said above this must be someone's "minions."

I had my first child at 17 and my last child at 39,
Back in the day having a child unwed and PG was so humiliating, I did marry the father but was PG first.
For those who don't know ,the chances of having a Down syndrome child is more common in older women.

Well I hope this will end the ridiculous lies being said. Doubt it though.
I wish Bristol (named after Bristol Bay, AK?) the best of luck in her marraige (she is engaged) and being a mom

I could care less that her daughter is pregnant. It happens, big deal. I'm also ok with pre-marital sex. I cant say the same for some on the
religious right. I see it as a non issue but there are those in the religious communities that look down upon this kind of thing. Unfortunately for
McCain that is a group of people who they target for votes so it may or may not have any impact. The fact she is going to marry the guy who got her
pregnant and that she is not going the abortion route, will probably help the cause for the religious right in the country.
I do wonder if there was a shotgun involved in the marriage proposal
Good luck to Bristol Palin, babies are a lot of work.

Great find!!! Thank you for pointing that out. I was wondering WHEN she decided to marry the father of the baby and if it was something that was
done when her Mother was asked to run to VP or if it was prior to that. You have just answered that question.
The more I think about it, the more I feel this won't have that much of a backlash. I think that other than the shock factor, it won't make a
difference in the minds of the voters ... my husband on the other hand seems to think that the evangelicals will drop their support for Palin ASAP!

Jay, You are 100% correct, it "reeks of something", and that "something" that "reeks" is the fact that nothing seems to be off limits these
days.
As a society we have allowed ourselves to be divided by the process of chooding a leader. And in this process, it seems nothing is off limits. I, as I
hope many are, am ashamed of the actions of some of my fellow man (regardless of party affiliation).
FYI, The risk of having a baby with chromosomal disorders increase as a woman grows older. The most common of these disorders is Down syndrome, a
combination of mental retardation and physical abnormalities caused by the presence of an extra chromosome. At age 25, a woman has about a 1-in-1, 250
chance of having a baby with Down syndrome; at age 30, a 1-in-1,000 chance; at age 35, a 1-in-400 chance; at age 40, a 1-in-100 chance; and at 45, a
1-in-30 chance.

Do you have proof of such emails? To make a claim that a party is specifically inciting a rumor smear camaign requires proof. I'm not saying its not
true but a link or some kind of evidence would be nice.

p.s i dont like the extreme smearing that goes on from anyone in american politics but its quite funny to see some posters complain about it when they
themselves are the biggest offenders on these very boards.

Guys, I did recant my positions. If you want to continue to degrade me for what I admitted was wrong, by all means.
Sometimes it just seems as if it is too much to handle. I mean, this entire process is a joke. It is hard to make sense of who has done what. What
with spin, counterspin, lie, repeat... eh, I jumped on her without thinking it through. I apologize.
