Sweden's Loch Ness monster possibly caught on camera

news.yahoo.com

STOCKHOLM (AFP) - Sweden's own version of the Loch Ness monster, the Storsjoe or Great Lake monster, has been caught on film by surveillance videos, an association that installed the cameras said Friday.

The legend of the Swedish beast has swirled for nearly four centuries, with some 200 sightings reported in the lake in central Sweden.

"On Thursday at 12:21 pm, we filmed the movements of a live being. And it was not a pike, nor a perch, we're sure of that," Gunnar Nilsson.

The website linked in the article is in Swedish, but it's still easy to navigate: www.storsjoodjuret.nu...

The image at the bottom of the site shows what the security camera picked up. The video on top of the image is completely different.

If you go to the main page, you can also choose english

English version

I didn't know about this "great lake monster" as they call it, but first sightings was in the 15 century, and more than 500 people have witnessed it since...

It is hard to say how big that thing is on the picture, but still exciting news

Looks like a fish, the eye is at the top left of the red box and the little black protrusion at the back is the top of its tail.

I don't know what the hell the thing in the video is though.

Yes I know there are no Grouper in the Loch...its just the closest thing that I can think of that the fish in the photo resembles. Not much of an expert on fish but I do know one when I see one.

Come on dude...you don't see the fish?

Look:

Maybe that link is wrong or something but all I see is a fish.
Those watching the camera feeds over there are either overly excited or simple playing a joke.

Agree, its very similar to the pic below. Fish up close to the camera looks like a giant monster to a viewer unless they check carefully. I could tell it was a fish, but not what type.

If you go to the english version of the website (the flag is in the top right corner), right above the video, it says:

Snake 2008-08-26

So, they at least had that one figured out!

As for the other picture, at least they know where the big fish are now when they go fishing!

Did you all see the same thing I saw?

This video may be a snake or something else, but it hardly looks like a lake trout!

Seriously? a fish and a possible snake that looks a lot like a sperm.

I guess folks in Sweden have never seen fish and snakes before.
