An excellent speech IMO.

For those who like to accuse him of vaguely promoting change without specifics, I think he spelled out pretty clearly what he means by it.

Which is exactly what he needed to do tonight.

His speech certainly isn't going to convince any of the Limbaugh/Hannity/Coulter crowd - that would be impossible anyway. They wouldn't vote for a black Democrat if their lives depended on it

To a lot of people sitting on the fence though, he spelled out his agenda pretty clearly:

We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country. The reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than for those plagued by gang violence in Cleveland, but don't tell me we can't uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals. I know there are differences on same-sex marriage, but surely we can agree that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters deserve to visit the person they love in the hospital and to live lives free of discrimination. Passions fly on immigration, but I don't know anyone who benefits when a mother is separated from her infant child or an employer undercuts American wages by hiring illegal workers. This too is part of America's promise — the promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort.

The speech that Obama has just delivered can only be ranked as a MASTER PIECE. If he can walk the walk, we shall see in the debates. I think he still needs to explain, and demonstrate, where the money for all those projects is going to come from.

Tonight, however, is not about that. It was about a candidate that demonstrated is willingness to come out punching, when necessary. It was about a United Party, that will fight for it's candidate. It was, finally, about explaining the meaning of the slogans, CHANGE, YES WE CAN etc.
It was also about telling the American people, and the word, that Washington "politics as usual" will have no place on this ticket. Let us hope that the practice will live up to the promise.

I started out as a Rudy Giuliani supporter, then jumped onto McCain's ship, or should I say plane, after Rudy conceded, in Florida. I am still firmly on the McCain ticket, but tonight I have seen, for the first time, that there is another option out there.
If I where to become a citizen of the USA, which I have no intention of doing, I would be bitting my nails until the GOP convention. I would be thinking, to myself, that either McCain chooses a good running mate or he loses, either he kicks the party in the balls, and sends all those inbred rednecks, that have hijacked the party for the past 8 years, and sends them packing to where they belong, the KKK, Aryan Nations, American Nazi Party etc., or he looses.

I will not be able to vote, since I have no desire of being an USA citizen, but I will be able to raise a lot of money, for one of the tickets. Until today's speech my support was clear. After today, I will be holding McCain to a much tighter, and demanding, criteria. If McCain is himself, he can count on my support, if, on the other hand, he tries to reach out to the Fascist fringes of the Party (the "born again" inbred "shrubs"), I guess my fund raising can now go to another candidate...

I feel privileged tonight. Out of the hundreds of political speeches I have heard, out of the thousands I have read, this one has to be in the TOP TEN.
I have no words to describe it, I will just say PURE GENIUS....

It is all Hollywood. Think Nixon and why JFK won, it was the first time on tv and who you think looked better? Personally, I find it very creepy that Obama is where he is. I read today that they were filling the seats with homeless, I wish I had marked the page, but I was talking about it with hubby, and he mentioned, the oscars and seat fillers. Then we laughed.

then i'm reminded by seeing the droning crowd holding political signs. there are alot of true believers that really buy into this bs.

any current politician is a multitude of walking contradictions. they are all verifiably corrupt, either through lobbyist swing or morally bankrupt in their overall decision making process. they will say anything if it might get them to the next level.

lets not forget that they thrive on power and ego, and simply to fill the position requires much backstabbing and manipulation. i honestly think that they are propping up osama in order to crush the "i want to believe" people, and simply inject mccain, like the last election for instance. handing the american people a defeat on osama would crush what little resistance many of the populace have left. they know this of course, and everything is done in the bigger picture of how it will mold society for their future plans.

when the system has reached the point where an honest person would have absolutely no chance to become president, we have begun the fall of rome.
thus the pilars in obama's speech, a greco-roman reference of decadence and excess, and as usual the elite play with us with symbolism and hints of what its to come. we deserve what we are getting for not resisting sooner.

a government that fears its people has freedom.
we are not one of them.

however, my point would be that if we could get past the speech and look at the issues, it is apparant the man is pushing for a socialist state.

I would rather have the most boring speaker who still stood for the constitution in its original form. I am not looking to be entertained and find it both laughable and scary @ the same time that so many care more about the way he delivered his speech and bought the hype that was meant to catch you like a fish.. hook line and sinker! bought and sold

Speeches mean to me when they are coming from someone who is BLATANTLY socialist in his stances on the issues!!!

I watched it.... I kinda like Obama, but he reminds me of the anti-christ at the same time. Anybody else feel like this. I do not believe much he says. McCain either for that matter...Just something about Obama is spooky.

He's just a man... thats it... you may not like what he promotes but just imagine if what he speaks about could exist? I know its easy to be cynical but I am ready to be optimistic...

I'm not an Obama supporter, but that speech was as good as it gets.

Anyone who didn't like that speech must really hate anything that's not republican propoganda.

Living at the epicenter of the DNC, Denver Colorado, I want to thank the person who started this post so us little people can chime in about tonight's Obama speech to-wit:
Personally, I think the set out-matched the speech. Obama's slightly above average speech would have been much better in the original venue, the Pepsi Center, where they've been convening all week.
The setting was glitzy Hollywoodesque with touches of Wash D.C. architecture and ancient Athens or Rome. With that back drop one would expect the most jaw dropping inspirational speech. Maybe the folks at the stadium felt it more than those in the television audience, but even they all seemed alittle wilted after waiting around for hours for Obama to appear.
I don't know who wrote his speech. Rumors say that he wrote most of it. As an English major and life-long political junkie and speechophile, it simply lacked the get up on your feet rousing call to action. Think Dennis Kusinich's "Wake up America!!!!!" from a couple of night's ago.
If I had written parts of it, I would have injected something in a repetitive manner saying:
"Tonight I stand before you and humbly ask for your continued support until we all reach the finish line of this amazing Presidential campaign. And as we go forward, let us note that the long road to this evening has culminated in Denver, at the foot of the majestic Rocky Mountains of Colorado where over a 150 years before brave pioneers resolved to cross these very mountains in their courageous march to places unknown. I can almost hear their own haunting refrain of "Yes We Can" - but to our fellow Americans tonight from Maine to California who doubt our unity after this week or question our resolve, I say - YES...WE... WILL!!!"
And then go on to repeat "Yes we will...end a far away war...Yes we will gain total energy independence within the decade...Yes we will....see that every American has health care...Yes we will...change the mis-guided ways of the past eight years."
That gets an audience involved with the proper pause all saying loudly and in unison YES WE CAN.
Maybe I just remember the absolutely inspiring speeches of JFK. With him, you just knew we'd get things done and he cared about the US and "us"...and those who hated him, knew as well and ended his life. Same with MLK "I have a dream" speech.
That's my take on the DNC and I am just happy it was peaceful and without any major incident. Plus, we had just awesome weather this week. Sometimes we can get cold snap and hail - but it was beautiful.

I tried to listen to this speech on the radio at work in between truck drivers entering my office to pick up their paperwork. EVERY truck driver that came in while he was speaking looked at me like "what are you listening to that meaningless drivel for?" I told them "Know thy enemy".

Its funny. He talks of his connection to the "working man", yet almost every man I've met that works for his money (I'm not talking managers or execs, I mean the "working man" like truck drivers, truck loaders [me], process operators, sheet metal workers, and maintenance personnel) can NOT relate to this idiot. Make over $30,000 a year but less than $100,000? Then you'd be insane to vote for this guy. 22 truck drivers CAN'T be wrong, can they?

The melodrama leading up to Barack Hussein Obama taking the stage (designed by the same people that designed the stage backdrop for Britney Spears concerts--and that is NOT a joke) was sickening. You would think it was the 3rd coming of Jesus Christ himself! For him to start his speech off with the words "I humbly" is a total contradiction. He's trying so hard to be a great orator like Reagan yet he FAILS; at least to everyone but the uninformed, young, ignorant and uneducated (and older folks who think the Democratic party is what it was in the distant past). His pandering to the military and non-pacifists was obvious.

In the hour prior to his speech, I heard many references to Martin Luther King and the anniversary of his "Dream" speech. I heard many comparisons and--I don't know how many! times-- "Obama is the first black candidate and will be the first black [African American] President". I am SO sick of this bull. For one thing, Barack Hussein Obama is half white[caucasian]! It would be MORE accurate to say he is the first "mixed" or "half-breed"!

I like what Teddy Roosevelt has to say on drawing this "seperation" (and, while I'm bringing this quote up, it is very applicable to immigration and second language in the US):

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Obama will take your civil liberties from you. He will tax you, alot. He will make you dependent on large government. He will attempt to control the Internet through the MSM and Google etc. - who are already backing him for that monopolizing legislation.

America, the most successful country in the world and still is, will be but a distant memory if Obama becomes elected.

John McCain is going to lower taxes, get us out of Iraq with dignity instead of hightailing it out of there like a whipped dog, have a much better foreign policy rather than trying to have a "dialogue" with people who know only violence and radicalism, cure cancer, and give you a free puppy.

Oh, and if you compare the tax plans offered by the two candidates, just running the straight up numbers, you'll be in for a surprise:

Even this guy doesn't like Obama, and yet, he gave away most of our sensitive military technologies to China for campaign funding and promises to now bankrupt companies selling satellites, encryption, guidance chips, radar jammers and numerous other sensitive techs. Over 160 counts of illegal transfers to China in just one incident!

On top of this, the Clinton administration still added over 1.5 Trillion$ of debt to the American economy, and that was even without the devastation of 9/11 which he let happen!!

The only good thing he did was cut the Capital Gains tax which encourged investors, just like Presidents Kennedy and Reagen did before him.

Obama wants to do the oppposite and double the Capital Gains tax!!

Obama is a freedom and economic wrecking ball waiting to happen.
