It actually makes perfect sense to me.

But then again, I assume you're from Australia, the people that commit the majority of crime in Australia don't have enough money to get abortions anyway. In fact, I'm sure they just keep popping out kids in order to get increased doll payments ie the baby bonus.

What outrages me is the number of people (from a certain background) getting away with serious crimes. One of my best mates was bashed to death by 10 people a few years ago, and the people who did it got away with it, because they couldn't prove who landed the killing blow.

Habeas Corpus is extremely important. I think we should find other solutions to our problems (like firing illegal immigrants out of giant cannons).

The video games situation annoys me. I know in Australia they don't have a adult rating, therefore those games just get banned, or like what happened with GTA, the game is altered.

So... really.

What is it about unwanted children being prevented, that is a bad thing again?

Habeus Corpus, that went to the same place as the US Constitution. It's not really gone, Bush simply used it for cleanup after some authentic Mexican food. There's reasons we need fresh, new floods of illegals.

Forgive the poor man already.

With Great Vagina Comes Great Responsibility. I think Abortions should be up to the mother. on a personal account I got attempted car jacked by a "unwanted Child" he was 17 i chased him down tackled him and made a citizens arrest, After that he threatened to kill me about 20 times in front of the cops. Turns out this kid was a real loser and the cops knew just who he was. When i called his "parents" to inform them i was gonna sue them for damages to my door the Mom was clearly high on some drugs didnt care for the kid and passed the phone to some other Teenager loser that just sat there and cursed at me for 5 minutes.

This kid should have never been born, his mom should have never been born aether. I put him in juvy for 3 months that was the most they gave him, what a joke. He's gonna be back on the street in no time perpetuating his Criminal Carrear and looken for me.

On my local radio talkback last night the Attorney General repeated a statement that OUTRAGES me

It may outrage you, but the statement is founded in solid research. See
  1. Donahue, J.J. and Levitt, S.D., 'The Impact of Legalized Abortion on Crime', Quarterly Journal of Economics 116, No. 2 (2001)
  2. Donahue, J.J. and Levitt, S.D., 'Further Evidence That Legalized Abortion Lowered Crime: A Response to Joyce', Journal of Human Resources 39, No. 1 (2004)
  3. Dagg, P.K., 'The Psychological Sequelae of Therapeutic Abortion - Denied and Completed', American Journal of Psychiatry 148, No. 5
  4. David, Dytrych, et al., Born Unwanted: Developmental Effects of Denied Abortion, 1998, New York, Springer
  5. Leigh, A. and Wolfers, J., 'Abortion and Crime', AQ: Journal of Contemporary Analysis 72 (2000)

These are technical papers. You may read a popular account of the research and conclusions in Levitt and Dubner, Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explains the Hidden Side of Almost Everything (2005, New York, William Morrow), which includes the above references.

I am anti baby murder.

Well, so am I if it comes to that. I simply don't regard early-to-midterm fetuses as babies. And please - I have no interest in arguing the point.

The abortion issue is a complicated one. A very close friend of mine had an abortion many years ago. It was, I believe, a wise and necessary decision, but it caused her a great deal of pain which lingers to this day.

All that is by the by. Your Attorney-General is correct; there seems to be little doubt that legalized abortion has helped reduce crime. Whether you regard that as an argument in favour of abortion or not is up to you, but the statement itself is far from outrageous. It's true.

Your Attorney General is being intellectually honest. You are being naive.

The fact is, if a child is unwanted he/she will have less care and attention, less supervision and less participation by the parents. Every study indicates that such conditions will most often lead to abuse, delinquency and crime.

It is a sad fact of the human condition. As a Catholic mom, I do not believe in abortion, but as a human being I do not judge others who have to make difficult personal decisions - decisions which should not be subject to legislation, politics, exploitation or prosecution.
