A computer virus is alive and well on the International Space Station (ISS).

Nasa has confirmed that laptops carried to the ISS in July were infected with a virus known as Gammima.AG.

The worm was first detected on earth in August 2007 and lurks on infected machines waiting to steal login names for popular online games.

Nasa said it was not the first time computer viruses had travelled into space and it was investigating how the machines were infected.

well what are all those Astronauts sent to do now all there World of War accounts got hacked?

and they were so on a porn site to get that virus! think about it...best way to steal online passwords? from pubescent boys? Trojan porn!

Oh the last region which was free of computer viruses has been conquered, sigh!, there goes the safe heaven for computers.

Most viruses are created in an attempt to target corporations. Think "corporate warfare", only, in cyberspace. Companies actually pay programmers to create malicious code to target the software tools and operating systems of other companies.
The thing is, it's incredibly hard to trace. And the person paid to insert it into companies if it can't be done remotely, is usually someone working for that targeted company.

This one however, was clearly created for personal gain, to steal accounts in online games.

Remember, allot of well created players characters can go for some real cash.

it was done on purpose to see if they act the same in space conditions

It is thought that the virus might have travelled via a flash or USB drive owned by an astronaut and taken into space.

The space agency also plans to put in place security systems to stop such incidents happening in the future.

I want the antivirus they are gonna make. i will even pay for it.

months in space with only a couple people company

then again this just shows how cheap they are when it comes to computer protection
