I have downloaded the newest version of avg, but it tells me I have to remove old/other virus protection programs before I can install the new version. I have viruses in the virus vault. What will happen with those viruses in the vault if I uninstall the old version?

They will break free, wreaking havoc upon your household appliances. Ever tried to get a virus out of a toaster? It's not pretty.

Only kidding.

Nothing bad will happen. Whilst in the virus vault they are deactivated and harmless.

I downloaded the avg update and something bad happened.
It said to restart my pc and when I did I got a blue screen of death and here it is:

It won't let me start in safe mode. It won't let me do anything. Did I crash my pc?

Thank god I still have my old pc.

At the risk of sounding stupid, the answer is simple.

Remove/delete everything in the vault, no seriously.

Now disconnect from the internet

Now uninstall antivirus and whatever programs it did not like.

Now reboot

Now install avg 8, download updates and reboot

Now attempt to download updates again.

Now reinstall your other programs.

Thank you Mr. Monsoon.
I did all that, but now I've got even bigger problems. When I restarted it it I got the blue screen that says it did a physical memory dump. Don't have a clue what that is, but I can't get windows to operate even in safe mode now. I'll have to have my husband take a look at it.

Ok, some, a very few, computers don't like avg 8.

Uninstall avg and reboot

Insted try Avast(free) or Avira AntiVir or Pc tool anti-virus or Comodo Antivirus 2.0.17.58 Beta or ClamWin or bit defender free or..........................

Also check your anti-spy programs-some can cause the same, check adawear 2008.

hmmm

Last night AVG wouldn't update for me. My brother called me and said his was doing the same thing.

I logged on this morning and it updated just fine.

I like AVG thus far, it's a good program.

Some IT guys I play poker with are all yelling McAffee... but AVG works.
