Dr Drew Rehab deaths investigated

abclocal.go.com

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A local rehabilitation facility, reportedly run by celebrity rehab specialist Doctor Drew Pinsky, is under investigation after three patients die in five months.

The facility is located on Del Mar Boulevard in Pasadena.

Deaths are considered relatively uncommon at rehab and psychiatric facilities. Investigators found multiple deficiencies at a Pasadena facility that is causing some alarm.

Alex Clyburn, a 23-year-old university student, became addicted to painkillers after a car accident. His family thought that Aurora Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena was the best place for his rehab. However, now, his mother says it was a deadly mistake.

I can't believe Dr. Drew would also lie about his association with this hospital. I would listen to this guy on the K ROQ station every night on love line and enjoyed him. But now he goes on to deny his associate when his picture had been famously posted up on the website and now mysteriously taken down. And he was obviously posted as Director of the facility as well. I just makes him seem less respectable that he has to stoop as low as to lie about being associated with them now that it was happened.

Wow I love Dr. Drew also! I watched the Celebrity Rehab show that had the guy from the original Grease movie on it etc...was a good show! I think it was the first season of it, the one I watched.

That's a shame but when you're dealing with patients in withdrawal, and patients with hard-core addictions I am sure this sort of thing happens on occasion. I wonder how often this DOES happen?

That show, Intervention, on A & E has had some deaths and some people land in jail as well.

Wow, but this just makes him look like an outright liar.

We mentioned last week that Aurora Las Encinas Hospital, the Dr. Drew Pinsky-endorsed rehab facility in Pasadena, CA, is under investigation after 3 deaths and the rape of a 16-year old girl happened within weeks of one another.

Well, it looks like Dr. Drew is starting to do the distancing dance!

Prior to the scandal, the doc's photo was featured prominently on the hospital's website.

Pinksky's photo disappeared from the hospital's site on Friday, as the scandal story started to get more legs.

Pinsky told the LA Times on Thursday, "It's not my hospital," and added that he thought it was a "bizarre misconception" that people associated him with Las Encinas. He also went on to say, "we make a point of not promoting the fact . . . that we work there."

When the reporter told Pinsky he was the only physician with a photo on Las Encinas' website home page, Dr. Drew claimed said he was unaware of that.

The Pinsky bio posted on the websites for his radio show Loveline and VH1's Celebrity Rehab , however, stated:

"He is currently the Medical Director for the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at Las Encinas Hospital, a world-renowned psychiatric facility in Pasadena known for treating celebrity patients"

Very curious!

Yes it certainly does...I never really thought though, after watching the first season of that show? That he actually "worked" there, I assumed they were letting him on "staff" just for that show, because the people that actually worked there, ran the whole thing, he was just doing individual one on one therapy it looked like to me, but yeah I am sure he's scared he will get sued as well...I will give him the benefit of the doubt, perhaps his lawyer is advising him to have his photo taken down etc.

I general, I have always liked Dr. Drew, I think he is a sexy man with good advice, but It's possible that the one who suggested him to lie about this whole thing is his lawyer. After all, these people go out of their way to defend psycho killers, and even if it means making their clients lie.

Glad I am not the only one who thought he was sexy
He seems to genuinely care as well, which I always loved, and of course, the brains, I love a man with brains...

Hmmmm...I am quite interested to see how this plays out. I am/was under the impression that Dr. Drew has an extremely high level of integrity. That being said, I believe he, and his attorney are concerned with the short side goals of the addicts families. If a person were going to be advised by an attorney to pursue litigation against someone, they would try to go after someone who has money...I believe this is the concern initially.

After a brief amount of time, I would bet that not only will Dr. Drew acknowledge his part in the hospital, but help with the gathering of details behind these deaths...and I'll also be willing to put money on him offering help to the families...

how can you hold Dr. Drew responsible for what happened?

I'm sure he would never condone the actions. What happened was horrible, but blame the guy who raped the girl. I'll bet he didnt recieve a bonus check for doing it.

Definatly investigate the deaths - but tying Dr. Drew to this?

Come on. I realize he endorsed it - but that'd be like blaming Oprah for A million Little pieces book.

Now of course i could be wrong and he could be the Satanist bastard child of Lucifer himself who's plotting to take over the world one death at a time through a rehab center

but i doubt it.

Don't know much about dr. Drew. Saw Celebrity Rehab on telly ...... I frowned ..... thought:" making a docu about this in THAT way is questionable"

It's FREE advertising and prob. the facility got money for their rehab programme.

BUT celebs (like actors / singers) with an addiction putting through this ordeal is feeding on their addictional behaviour and emotions. Patients look up to their doc and are easily to be manipulated in such a vulnerable situation. One can not help addicts to quit drugs / pils / alcohol and feed on their ' attention' addiction.

A GOOD DOCTOR shouldn't do that.

Been in rehad 2 myself so I know. ' Feeding your ego then you can feed mine', is NOT the proper way. It's negative bonding.
