Some people are of the opinion that the "underworld", if it existed, i.e people living inside the earth, in caves, mountains, etc, is where we get the general concept of hell from (of course, heaven is always above, and hell below ground), and that there were two factions of the same species/race or whatever that split, effectively into good and evil.

consider that if people feel "strange" in a good way, so to speak, near the Untersberg, and if people who actually live close, but never get near the mountain looses their energy. Then the legends of worshipping the mountain does seem to have an effect after all ?

The desire to visit this mountain is overwhelming, I hope to one day participate in some kind of organised expedition.

Excellent info. I wondered why he built his house on top of a mountain. I worked in Burchesgarten for a ski season and you could not miss his home and view. How did everyone miss this info about the Untersberg Mountain? It seems Hitler was very interested in occult, mystical power. I am currently reading *The Spear of Destiny* by Trevor Ravenscroft which shows how obsessed Hitler was with obtaining POWER above all else. ;(
Such a sad little man. He could have been an inspired artist but instead he chose the darker path. Does anyone know what Untersberg means? I think berg means mountain or hill but what does unter mean. (under)???

as of the most recent updates i read - there are > 10km of surveyed caves descending >1000m under the untersberg

the area is a renowned german caving location - and each season , expeditions and clubs make new discoveries .

this cave-expeditions has an enormous complexitiy. most of the untersberg-caves are long shafts and you need a lot of equiment and power.
keep in mind - this explorers are scientists, speleologists.
science and spirituality?
i know the experience standing for a few days in a dark cave. you have to concentrate, you lost your feeling for time. the biorhythmical functions of the body are disturbed.
if the caves has been easy gates to an other world many people would go there.
for unterstanding all the paranormal phenomenons of this mountain you have to open your mind AND your heart. this is no way of science.
for understanding the spirit of a mountain, you have to speak with him, you have to clean your mind. a scientist need his mind to see.

untersberg is a heart-chakra of the earth.

I believe you are Austrian, so please excuse me when i explain my take on the name from a british point of view, grammatically, having studied German for some time.

Unter = Under
Berg = Mountain
The "s" would denote a genetive case, meaning possession, or "of the" and relates to the word "unter".

So put that all together, and you would get "the mountain of that which is underneath".........or "Mountain of the Underworld" maybe...???????

Hey Skyfloating, thank you for posting yet another fantastic thread.

I've seen the title of this thread for a few days and just ignored it because initially I thought it was just another boring inconclusive UFO case,, not that I don't like UFO cases.. hehe

But it turned out to be as interesting as the Bermuda Triangle, if not more interesting because of it's relation to extraterrestrials and such..

A mountain from the Underworld... lol would bring it maybe at the point.

At this mountain.. they have a mine for marble. red/white marble
which is now.. in some bathrooms all over the world.

we had the congress from the EU-Parlament there. (lol the hole city was closed by the police)
Arnold Schwarzenegger was there (lol the hole station was closed with police)
Every good Opern-star was there (Nebresko )

The hole world made pictures of the city
Japan, Asian, Chinese, Vietnam, Australia, Europe, Russia, Turkey etc... in the summer you only hear English, Chinese or Italy in the Inner City. No German

Not sure if they are still looking for team members, but you might want to check out the North Pole Inner Earth Expedition (www.npiee.org...)

This is a expedition that has been in the planning for a while, currently headed up by Dr. Brooks Agnew--quite an amazing individual, I saw a presentation by him on this at the Bay Area UFO Conference a couple of years back.

I think it is heading out in 2009.

Untersberg is not the "Witch Mountain".. some other mountain i guess (?)

but there are stones..called "the sleeping Witch"

the movie nothing means with it...
