Sounds like a neat dig (no pun intended) for a retreat.
There is a place near where I live that is similar, just no chains on the walls

I have spent alot of time in the mountains around here, and it is nothing to run into an old mining shanty... luckily I haven't ran into anyone that is living in one either.

Kinda makes me want to grow a beard and move outta this place.

Cheers,
T-

Not a bad way to go IMO, the cliff dwellers along the Green River in Utah weathered the storm ok it seems, and left descriptions of what they saw and experienced on the cliff walls. I don’t know that I would want my access to be by sea though. And I would certainly rather have a fresh water source instead of than the ocean. The more I think about it, the more I wouldn’t want to be on an ocean cliff when the S really HTF.

Nomadic tribesman throughout the world have used caves as shelter for about as long as humans have been walking upright.

If you find a suitable cave that's unoccupied, stock it with your most essential items: tools, ammo, and a bit of food. You should also create some form of drain in the cave if you plan on living in it. Caves are often damp as they are often much cooler than the outside during the summer and warmer in the winter.
