The rules are different for that sport. The main reason this is imposed with gymnasts is because such extreme body devolopment will cause bones to stunt. Swimming is different in body development. But that point is all moot anyway when you consider that a rule that is being followed by one team will put them at a disadvantage if another team does cheat.

There is no rule on the books preventing a 14 year old from competing in the diving competition. There IS a rule requiring that a participant in the gymnastics competition must be 16 or older during the olympic year.

but why is it ok for there to be a rule for 14 year old males who perform gymnastic manoeuvres on the diving board to be allowed but not 14 year old female gymnasts? 14 years old is 14 years old regardless of the sport. all the games should have the same minimum age limit (which should be 16 in imho).

Yeah.. He should not have been allowed to compete either. Obviously too young according to the IOC rules. I have nothing against these young athletes performing, but in my mind this is more of an issue of the IOC adhering to their own rules, and perhaps more importantly the conspiracies of their governments falsifying the athletes credentials.

I had seen the Stryde post on slashdot early on and looks at the spreadsheet data on baidu.. Someone suggested this was hacking... and I totally disagree. Anyone with a web browser can get this information, nothing illegal about it. I am not saying this is "proof" of anything, however there
was a record in spreadsheet that He's bday was 01-01-1994, and that information was on the official chinese gov website. It's not like this was
fabricated out of thin air. At the very least, it creates reasonable doubt and the burden of prove should rest on the athlete to produce a birth certificate.
There was some report that the Gymnastic's parent were indignant ... well I got news for them... The rest of the world is indignant as well. Produce the birth certificate and squelch the controversy. Simple as that.

Oh, I thought everyone knew that the USOC covered up positive drug tests on their athletes for decades. I guess there are some people who aren't aware of this situation.

sportsillustrated.cnn.com...

This is old news but just shows the hypocrisy of denouncing China for their apparent transgression of the 'rules.'

I have no doubt the Chinese Govt could produce more than enough documents to prove I am a 16 year old little girl that was born in Beijing. They're going to get away with it, don't you sweat a thing!

Haters unite!

You know what Sirhomo, you want that gold medal cheater go ahead and keep it! Just know that everytime you look at it or wear it, you had to cheat to get it! What a great honor!

That one gold medal is nothing to the a$$ kicking we put on at this years olympics. I live in the greatest country on the planet and I'm damn proud of it. And if you look at most of the winners from other countries, most of them attend our colleges and universities. You want to be the best? You know where you gotta go baby! That's right! USA

Or you can cheat!

Exactly! China didn't prove anything but the fact that they have zero respect for the rules and regulations of an international sporting event. But I really saw this coming. All China did in their response to the alleged IOC "investigation" was submit the same documentation they did before. Why has the evidence pulled from the internet been investigated? Furthermore, anyone with even half a brain can tell just by looking at some of those kids that they are not 16...some of them look more like they are 10 or 11. The ones that are of age are easy to distinguish from those who are not. Unfortunately, this fiasco has caused me to completely loose faith in the IOC! What a sham !

Edit for spelling
