Dems Pounce on McCain Admission He Doesn't Know How Many Houses He Owns

voices.washingtonpost.com

SEDONA, Ariz.-- Sen. John McCain said in an interview that he did not know how many houses he and his wife own, a comment that Democrats immediately seized on as evidence that the Republican nominee is out of touch with the economic plight of most Americans.

"I think -- I'll have my staff get to you," McCain told reporters for the Politico website. "It's condominiums where -- I'll have them get to you."

The Democratic National Committee quickly send out a list noting that McCain owns at least seven different residences. That catalogue includes two homes in Phoenix -- one of which is a $4.66 million condominium -- and a $1.94 million vacation complex in Sedona, where he is spending this weekend before the Democratic convention.

He also owns two condos in a Coronado, Calif., building -- worth $2.1 million and $2.7 million -- a $1 million beach flat in La Jolla, Calif., and an $847,800 condo in Arlington, Va.

Democrats pointed out that most homeowners own only one house, worth an average of about $217,000. One Democratic e-mail noted that McCain also disclosed in filings that he also owns a parking lot worth at least $1 million.

"The fact that John McCain can't keep track of how many houses he owns is a telling moment that helps explain why he thinks 'the fundamentals of our economy are strong' and why he's just offering more of the same economic policies that we've gotten from President Bush for the last eight years," said Sen. Barack Obama spokesman's, Hari Sevugan.

WOW.
Seems like politicians have problems too. Only, instead of trying to find A place to live....they have to find THE place they live....

Must be nice.

And how much was a gallon of milk again......

I also can't remember anything being wrong with having money and owning property. How many houses do a lot of celebrities have I wonder?

Who cares.

I have to say who cares as well, a lot of his houses are probably not to live in, but rather more of investment properties...sooo...uhm, the Democrats are being pretty stupid in "pouncing" on this...

Let me guess, you want to look over greedily at the the "haves" and take what they got from the fruit of their hard work and give it to the "have nots" ie the lazy bums who live off the govt dole.
Blaming the guy who has wealth is not going to lower the price of milk, it would most likely increase the price since the added taxes would be passed on to the consumer in the form of even higher prices of goods. Simply put they'll just charge more for the same stuff and will be just as rich anyways. All this does is put money in the govt coffers for the liberal tax and spenders to regulate your life even more. You fall into the lefts propaganda all too easily. Of course they are the ones who said it is good that gas is $4 a gallon because the people are too stupid to conserve otherwise, and they have a plan to go to $6 no matter the market if Obama gets in.

I don't blame Lord Obama for pouncing on this. Pitting rich against the poor is what Democrats do. Democrats rely on class envy, and will do anything they can to exploit it.

Rightfully so, I might add... You have a person living in a comfortable financial bubble who doesn't know how many houses he owns, and you have stagnant or declining wages for most working Americans in the past 10 years or so. If the former is qualified to lead the latter... No, I wouldn't count on that.

Good call.
I bet Mc cain's aides are busily prepping him now, ok a loaf of bread costs this much, a quart of milk this much etc.
Most politicians are hideously out of touch from normal working life but Mc Cain seems more so than most.

"If you’re like me and you’ve got one house – or you were like the millions of people who are struggling right now to keep up with their mortgage so that they don’t lose their home — you might have a different perspective. By the way, the answer is: John McCain has seven homes. So there’s just a fundamental gap of understanding between John McCain's world and what people are going through every single day here in America."

source.
Pointing out ones houses was NOT a problem with you guys when it was John Kerry who was the target. Isn't politics fun? What a bunch of hypocrites.....

Both of them are in the millions. Rich. His comment is still hilarious though. Obama better be counting and re-counting his own assets at this time.

I don't care whether he's rich or not, but I think anyone who doesn't know how many multi million dollar houses he owns is definitely out of touch with the majority of the people who live in America.

How can he represent the working class backbone of this country if he doesn't feel what we feel, or doesn't have to worry about money? I say it is very telling, and the Democrats are right to wonder if he really would be good for this nation.

Also, just how good of a man is he since his wife distributes that worst of all legal drug BEER. Didn't he say once when asked a question, he replied in a fraudian moment..I will veto every single BEER that comes across my desk.

Maybe he's feeling somewhat guilty for all of the deaths and broken homes that effin stuff is responsible for.

I find it amazing that you completely discount the fact that many of these TOP BRASS type of people get alot of their money through profiteering(Which is not the same as making a profit), and exploitation.

Poor people work hard, VERY HARD. Some try to suck the system dry, it true. But there are criminals, profiteers, and war-mongers in all classes of society, the difference is, the war mongers, profiteers, and criminals at the top can do some REAL damage at a global scale even.

That is why we have to pay attention to some of these hypocrisies. We need to know the kind of guy we're going to get. I don't hear poor people asking for a hand out from the government. Only to change the policies that make companies go overseas, to stop allowing artificial inflation, to stop taxing them to death and make the tax burden a little more fair.

Poor people are asking to stop getting a beat down, and then told they're not working hard enough.

The only people making a profit right now are the elites that control finance, energy, and war. That should tell you something.

I'd rather have a President who doesn't know, off the top of his head, how much property he's invested in than a President who doesn't know, off the top of his head, how many states are in the U.S.

One of those bits of knowledge is important for leading a country, the other... not so much.

I see we're quite familiar with the concept of socialism, while being unfamiliar with the concept of capitalism and making your own way in the world.

Huge difference: John McCain isn't running on a platform which decries capitalism and embraces socialism & socialistic ideals while grasping his fistfulls of cash like Kerry & Edwards were. Say what you will about McCain, at least the guy isn't hypocritical about his finances like Kerry was, calling for the wealthy to be brought down so that the dregs of the economy can be brought up while holding hundreds of millions of dollars in his portfolio. Kerry learned everything from the masters of sitting on top of their stacks of gold inside the comfort of their ivory towers, George Soros & Warren Buffet, while condemning everyone else who has made any substantial grip in their life.

Besides, McCain's wife isn't a stark raving loon.
