you know it's really strange, but when I check my email, I get these messages from different addresses with the date: Monday, January 18, 2038 9:14 PM

Had this wild thought that perhaps these messages from the future are some cryptic message: BUY CIALIS, VIAGRA, CHEAP ROLEX etc. Maybe these
message are telling me to have sex now before time runs out.. haha

Of course, all this gets put into the spam folder, but seems to me a bit odd that an email with a future date could even be sent. Sendmail/SMTP should have some "built-in" mechanism for validating or even correcting timestamps.

Or maybe these messages are really from the future and there is nothing left on the planet except computer bots...

spammers use future dates to keep their emails at the top of your inbox. most new clients can still filter out that old trick. nice try though

The anonymous answer is correct. If you know just a few simple computer tricks, you can have your message "pretend" to be from the future or (another common trick) from the past.
