WASHINGTON - The U.S. cruise missile strike on an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan in 1998 was meant to kill Osama bin Laden. But he apparently left shortly before the missiles struck, and newly declassified U.S. documents suggest the attack cemented an alliance with his Taliban protectors.

that bin laden is sure a slippery little devil. oy vey. newly declassified. ha. since when does declassification happen after 10 years? or does it? good question, luc!

another thing...you're right. why now? and if i'm remembering correctly, this wasn't exactly a secret to begin with. i swear it's common knowledge...
