Police arrest man for photographing them

www.metro.co.uk

A man who challenged police reversing the wrong way up a one-way street - to visit a chippie - was thrown in a cell and threatened with trumped-up charges.

I can't believe this policeman wasn't suspended!! They were totally in the wrong here and I would have done the same as this man and photographed their vehicle and made a complaint against them. In the US this would be a law suit. The man even had his fingerprints and DNA taken. Even after being released and not being charged the police will hold these on record. And all he got was an apology!?!

Ahhhhh good old PC Farooq.

Assaulted a man, lied about the arrest, and carried it on into the Police station.

To be detained in a cell pC farooq must of LIED to the custody sergeant for the charges to be accepted.

PC Farooq is a liar and a danger to the public. That he assaulted a man, smashed his camera to the ground from out of his hand and then detained him on false charges shows he is not fit to be a police officer in any way shape or form.

His reaction to being photographed was to say 'he was assaulted' because the man took the picture...

The lying little b#####d should learn the law before he tries any stupid stunts like this again.

A person on public property can take photos of any thing and any one unless it crosses official secrets acts or other such laws. There is no 'assault' if your picture is taken in a public place.

Should be sacked. Not fit to be a binman, let alone a Policeman.

My bet is that they didn't sack him because he is the local 'black police officers federation rep' for S&A PF.

He would cry 'racism' at the top of his lie filled lungs if he got sacked is my opinion.

Disgrace.

And he claimed that a Police Community Support Officer sent to the scene promptly issued a warning that taking pictures of youths without permission was illegal, and could lead to a charge of assault.

News outlet

Add to PC Farooqs stupidity and lack of knowledge of the law of the UK, we have the above.

A PCSO tried to say taking a photo without permission is illegal.

See how little those who enforce the law know of the law? jack diddly squit is how much they know.

A bloody disgrace.

Im sure compensation and disciplinary action would be appropriate in this case.
There is no law prohibiting taking photo's in public. No law anywhere in the free world.
Only at customs checkpoints.
Why has this man not pursued it more?

I believe Police departments worldwide need to perform a specialised psych exam on each of their employees and then sit them down for a test on their knowledge of the law that they are supposedly protecting. I believe this needs to be done before the public loses ALL confidence in the police.

Its instances like the one mentioned above that make me want to be sick. Nothing short of firing the bas***d and making him pay recompense would have been good enough for me.

sadly - such ignorance of the law is proving to be the norm , not the exception amongst brittish police forces

i cannot say how or why - but i have regular encounters with police officers and PCSOs who have no idea what the law is in key areas

There are lots of examples of this - police officers parking up illegally outside takeaways, or breaking other traffic laws.

There must be a kind of scheduling system where the police only go to view CCTV at meal times....

Where I live police cars often drive down a supposed pedestrian only street to go to subway - they are never challenged.

It seems that some are above the law.

I agree. However, I also believe that there anyone that wants to be a police officer in the first place is already mentally unstable to some degree.

Who would want to go thru life being the perpetual "hall monitor", making sure everyone obeys a bunch of petty rules and ready to throw out all reason and common sense to enforce them?

Most cops I know view themselves as "above the law".

I see bad police driving/parking all the time. Is this what we can expect now if we challenge them?

I once had a party in my flat and the police turned up following a complaint. They claimed there was no legal decibel limit and that they had the right to come into my flat without a warrant and confiscate my equipment on the second call out. I obviously took their badge numbers, so they made a hasty exit.

This guy was right to question them and point out their error. He also had a right to photograph them. They had no right to swear at him and falsely imprison him on fabricated charges. If he'd reacted to them in that way he would have instantly got done under the 'Public Order Act'. If I was this guy I would try to get the police guy done under that act and use it against them.

The police need to be challenged. If we don't challenge them they get away with it.
