"We have learned now that we cannot regard this planet as being fenced in and a secure abiding place for Man." - The War of the Worlds With less fanfare than H.G. Wells's science fiction, but no less of the sweep, scientists in Montreal this week are conjuring new Earths.

This time, it's for real.

Spotting Earth's twin is tantalizingly close - perhaps a year or two away - a conference of the world's top space scientists was told yesterday.

"Everywhere we can look for planets we are finding them," said Sara Seager, a Torontonian who teaches physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "Everyone wants to meet an alien," Seager said, "but (extraterrestrial) life might just be bacteria."

Well if these scientists say they will live to see this moment, then I guess I can too!

Not sure what to make of this though, I mean, I know we are not alone but how can they be so sure about what they are saying? Is this part of disclosure? Preparing us for what be right next door?

You have to remember that they hardly ever (if at all) actually resolve these extra solar system planets with any of our current telescopes... Instead they have to make measurements on things like the wobble in the star and spectral analysis of the light that passes through the planets atmosphere as the planet passes in front of it's star.

It's a worry too, if life as we know it can inhabit it, then so can we........ and lead to all the devastation that would incur with our present attitudes. I really hope we don't sort it out getting there before we sort our scrap heap aka beautiful planet out.

Doesn't seem to be anything new in this article. If and when an Earthlike planet is found it will be wonderfully exciting but the only thing surprising about it would be the fact that it was able to be found, not that it's there.

A piece of fluff.

Bravo. Very well said, friend.

Er... it's referring to finding another planet like earth, in the galaxy. Not Nibiru.
basically on the assumption that life would evolve in a similar pattern on a planet similar to ours.

Any information on where and when this conference took place with "Top Space Scientists?" I have not heard of this and I'm wondering if you have a source/link/video/statement or anything else that can back your claim of this conference; and who were the space scientists... any names?
