Taiwan has accused Beijing of intimidation, after China opted to stage rare naval drills with France in the run-up to Taiwan's elections.

news.bbc.co.uk...

I'm sure its for some "noble" cause such as liberating the Taiwanese from all that horrible democracy and capitalism they suffer from.

Who needs an enemy when you can have a Socialist ally(or unfortunately in our case, allies).

I hope they'll be as good of an ally to China as they have been for us...

Yet another step toward WWIII, which I fully expect will involve China in a major way.

Okay, everyone surprised, raise your hand.

France left being friends with the West eyars ago.

Doesn't it appear as if things are going in such slow motion that we can see what is happening, as if we know the move before it happens yet are unable to stop it?

How quickly we forget that France stood up to the largest Naval power in the world to help us win our independence. FOR THAT I WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!!!!!

more like joint-surrender exercise, now im not so sure that china has many chances of taking taiwan, as they are lagging generations behind with technology, they still have more then 2000 mig-19
, i may be wrong tho..

in December 1997 the Clinton administration approved the export of more US built super computers to communist China.

Without the US to back them up, the Red Chinese could take Taiwan in twenty minutes tops.

I disagree with both of you.....LOL

I think China would win eventualy but there would not be a hell of a lot toleft to take over.

And it would bleed them big time.

I think we will wind up trading Tawian for Korea

I believe that Taiwan has the largest gold reserve, it holds alot of the worlds funds, I don't think the U.S. is gonna let go that easy. Plus, I'd rather there be no Taiwan, then a Communist Taiwan. God damn it Shang Hai Shiek!(sp)

I think a battle of Taiwan would be won by the chinease unless it consisted of us doing a Land Invasion on China. Due to the fact that are Reinforcement and Supply line is many times larger then the little trip to Taiwan from China. Just a matter of how fast you can get them over there. Sure, Quality beats Quanity, until Quanity's supply line never ends and just throws its lifes continuosuly at you, then quality gets beat. Zerging Taiwan in a Blitz would be China's move. The question is not would China win, but would we retaliate with land invasion?

some info on chinese amphibious capability:

www.sinodefence.com...

The PLA Navy has an insufficient number of large-scale and advanced landing ships and lacks such indispensable ship varieties as amphibious assault ships and dock landing ships. It is estimated that the PLA Navy is capable of lifting a force of 15,000 to 20,000 troops and some equipment in a regional (less than 30 hours of transit) amphibious assault. Once a port is secured, hundreds of merchant ships and thousands of fishing ships could be recruited for a lift of support personnel and heavy equipment. Shortcomings in long-range lift, logistics, and air support, however, hinders China's ability to project amphibious forces.

France does have one thing to be concerned about.
Nuclear submarines and nuclear weapons.

That makes me a little nervous.
