Not saying this is anyones issue, but I know schizophrenics hear voices. I knew a guy haunted by voices and he was way more than a little whacked.
He was highly agitated and a fellow who lived in the same building as schizo told me the guy screams in his room for the voices to stop.

I hear voices and sounds, sometimes as I drift into sleep and in the morning when I come out of sleep. I usually listen to the morning sounds more. One morning it sounded like some one was in my bathroom ripping apart nailed together 2 x 4s in the walls with an echoing sound. I even jumped out of bed to look in the bathroom and than went outside to check the side of my house for structure damage. Nothing found, but the sounds were so real as to make me jump up and look. I also hear unusual sounds in my house when sitting on the computer or watchig tv.

The humming is Tinnitus, go see an ear specialist. or see link.....

www.readersdigest.ca...

The voices well, just tell them to shut up, your trying to sleep. If that don't work go to a shrink....your nuts.

You'll get my bill in a couple of days.

I didn't see anyone mentioning Hypnagogic Imagery yet.
en.wikipedia.org...

Simply put ''between asleep & awake'' there is a possibility to experience this.

Simplier put Hypnagogic Imagery is like dreaming before actually falling asleep.
Or basically: hallucinating.

The same thing can happen when waking up, but in any case, Imagery might be a false name considering it usually has the ability to cover most, if not all senses.

In other words, this speech thing that you all experience might be nothing more than ''hallucinations'' that come in effect when you are closing in on dream-state.

Sounds

Hypnagogic imagery is often auditory or has an auditory component. Like the visuals, hypnagogic sounds vary in intensity from faint impressions to loud noises, such as crashes and bangs (exploding head syndrome). People may imagine their own name called or a doorbell ringing. Snatches of imagined speech are common. While typically nonsensical and fragmented, these speech events can occasionally strike the individual as apt comments on – or summations of – their thoughts at the time. They often contain wordplay, neologisms and made-up names. Hypnagogic speech may manifest as the subject’s own ‘inner voice’, or as the voices of others: familiar people or strangers. More rarely, poetry or music are heard.

Yeah, i too hear voices before falling asleep. And i also see things with my eyes closed. It's been happening for as long as i can remember, i always thought it's normal, but strange enough, i never even asked myself if others experience this too, until now.

My guess is that it's just our brains starting to dream when we're not fully asleep yet, but who knows.

I see the same thing! My eyes are closed but when I'm going through this state I see with my eyes closed but I'm awake. I believe this is the result of '___' release in our brains.

I posted this type of experience a while back:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

For the past couple of weeks I been experiencing "ringing in my ears" at night and afterward being trapped sort of a wind tunnel or vortex. I always thought I was having OoBS or Astral Projections...but now I realize is just my brain releasing lots '___'.

The funny thing about those times is that this happens only when you are awake wanting to fall sleep. The "ringing in the ears" comes first...then you dream while you're awake. Afterward you are trapped in this wind tunnel and this immense fear traps you. Couple of days ago I experience "two beings" or alien like greys standing staring at me. I believe this chemical makes you see beyond the material world and into a different realm or frequency of life.

Also the dream that you have before the wind tunnel can impact you significantly. In my case it lasted for about 2 minutes...and I ask a question to "someone". My question was "What happens if someone travels faster than the speed of light?". The answer was: " Your matter decomposes as you reach the speed light or greater. Also you reach a new frequency and you'll become..." it ends there.

The worst thing is that I know when I going to experience this Just before it happens.

Anybody knows more about this scenario? Any help is appreciated

EDIT: I have never ever done drugs in my life

Those strange moments between being awake and aware and full REM sleep are called hypnogogic and hypnopompic states of consciousness. We all experience strange things while in those states. One that I experience quite often is when outside stimulus enter my dreams. I'll be dreaming about being in a fire and the fire alarm bells will suddenly become the alarm clock as I begin to awaken. Other times I will actually dream about my working day in detail only to wake up and then find the day is unfolding just as it did in my dream! I have come to call this my Groundhog Experience...
Don't worry about it.

I get that, as well as, pictures in my head of various people, places and things that I don't recognize. I try and remember as much as I can.

For example, one of the images that came to mind was Maddy, before she was kidnapped in Portugal. You know the picture where she was biting her bottom lip. That is the image that came to me the day before, she was taken. I remembered it, as I thought she was such a cute little girl.

Little did I know that I was seeing the image of a child that was going to turn out to be kidnapped.

My mouth dropped when they showed that picture of her biting her lip, also I knew of her pink toy, as well, but it was like a bunny. I can't remember what animal it turned out to be. I just remember seeing a pink, cloth animal doll that was her favourite.

I think that state between concious and unconcious allows us to connect more readily than in our awake, or asleep state. We are more in tune to everything.

Like I said, I get both voices and pictures and sometimes they are not always related.

I think the best way to describe the state that I am in when it happens is like twilight sleep. The voices and images are lucid and intense.

It hasn't happened for a while, but it doesn't bother me, when it does happen. I am glad it doesn't happen all the time, as somebody would probably say that it was drug-related, or something lame to try and rationalize it.

I would try and focus on the strongest image, or voices that you hear. That was how I was able to see Maddie. Her image was the strongest, so I was able to pick it up more clearly and remember it so easily.

Don't try and work them all out, just try and remember the stronger voice, or image impressions that you get during that period and write them down, or commit them to memory.

Before I start: Disclaimer: I consider myself to be a Champion at lucid dreaming, and I too believe that there's more to these ''lucid'' stages of dreaming /pre-dreaming than just ''dreaming'', as some have had significant impact on physical and mental aspects of my life (both in positive manners.)

As I (and someone else) mentioned before, Hypnagogic Imagery can cause this.

Of course the ''absolute source'' of the images / audio can be discussed, however the phenomena for these events have been well documented, as well as "when" they occur.

I post yet again:
en.wikipedia.org...

I decided to post about the ''same thing'' again to include the following 2 snippets, as not everyone seems to read every link they come across:

Subjective interpretation

Hypnagogic phenomena may be interpreted as visions, prophesies, premonitions, apparitions and inspiration (artistic or divine), depending on the experiencer’s beliefs and those of their culture.

and regarding sight:

Sights

Among the more commonly reported,[23][24] and more thoroughly researched, sensory features of hypnagogia are phosphenes, also called ‘entoptic phenomena’. Hypnagogic phosphenes can manifest as seemingly random speckles, lines or geometrical patterns, including form constants, or as figurative (representational) images. They may be monochromatic or richly coloured, still or moving, flat or three-dimensional (offering an impression of perspective). Individual images are typically fleeting and given to very rapid changes. They are said to differ from dreams proper in that hypnagogic imagery is usually static and lacking in narrative content,[25] although others understand the state rather as a gradual transition from hypnagogia to fragmentary dreams,[26] i.e. from simple ‘eigenlicht’ to whole imagined scenes. Descriptions of exceptionally vivid and elaborate hypnagogic visuals can be found in the work of Marie-Jean-Léon, Marquis d'Hervey de Saint Denys.

I have experienced the state between asleep and awake, and had some really, really strange thoughts. Were these thoughts originate from, Im not sure.

Only last night, I woke up early this morning and I was in a state between being awake but between being asleep, I can only assume this is a state of confusion within the brain and due to some reasons it throws up strange scenarios.

Last night I dreamt of my ex girlfriend (who I haven't seen in 4 years) blowing up my house in a oven explosion, doesn't make no sense to me!

However, people do say that dreams are an inner reflection of the thoughts through the subconcious, something that is connected in your past can be manifested through a dream due to a recent "trigger" or re-collection.

I'm not entirely sure, I do believe that certain dreams are more than just that, that they do actually have a reason and purpose. But then again every dream will be interpreted differently, but then again thats subjectivity...

Some dreams you do not remember, some dreams are nice, and some dreams touch the soul, those are the dreams I believe mean something.

What you're experiencing is SP (sleep paralysis). It's completely normal. Basically, everyone enters SP before falling asleep. Most of the time you are unconscious in this state, but sometimes people find themselves conscious and experience auditory and sometimes visual hallucinations. I know from personal experience, because I used to try to induce lucid dreams (which are vivid dreams you are in control of), by first entering SP and then staying conscious while I entered sleep. The humming sound is characteristic of SP, as is hearing voices, though people report a large variety of auditory hallucinations.

This happens to me but I don't have to be half asleep at all. I made it happen while reading this OP. It not only includes voices as you describe but music. Sometimes it sounds like a radio broadcast with a DJ talking but none of it can quite be made out concretely. What is most interesting is that both I and my girlfriend can hear the same thing by tuning it in.

The voices never address me however at least not since I was very young. At the time it used to be stuff like "xxxx, get me a glass of milk." It happened at my grandmother's house most of the time for some reason.

Meditation can bring on a male voice making "Ahhhhh..." at a constant pitch that continues and follows me around even if I get up.

I don't hear a multitude of voices like you do, but I often have a singular voice pop up in my head while I'm in the interzone between sleep and waking life. He'll even give me commands and whatnot (I can't remember specifics, because it usually happens when I'm half-awake and not quite fully coherent, but the general gist is that he wants me to be awake). It's really annoying, and I'm unable to get more than two to four hours of sleep. I don't know what could be causing it, but I wouldn't put it past the government to be using mind control on someone like me. I only fear that at some point I won't be able to control the situation and they'll make me do something.

I don't hear voices i hear someone knocking at the door.
This has been a ongoing thing with me since my fibromyalgia started.

Right after it first started for a month i was care-taking a friends ranch 8 miles behind a locked gate. and i would be woken by knocking at the door and would jump out of bed and grab my assault rifle when i answered the door.
(sometimes nude)

No one is to be on this ranch in nevada and i have arrest powers on anyone that enters.
he own 30 sq miles of fenced and posted land and has problems with thieves stealing things off the property, hunters starting fires, and ATVers trespassing
cutting fences and vandalizing ranch equipment.

this knocking is a pain so now i just ignore it now. unless it is a certain pattern of knocks that friends use so that i know it is them.

This happened to me the other night. It was because of an episode of sleep paralysis. I was half awake and half asleep. My body wouldn't respond to anything, and my dreaming was starting, and filtering into my half awake vision. When i was in this sleep paralysis episode, i started to hear multiple people talking, and images of other things were replacing the door i was staring at in the bedroom. I eventually gained control of my bodily functions and popped awake suddenly. Thats how it usually happens. I've had these episodes plenty of times in the past. In my view, it's simply your dreams filtering into reality because of your half awake, half asleep state. It's quite interesting though..

Lucid dreaming. Learn it. Live it. Love it.

Seriously though, practice meditating on a regular basis. I used to and I started mastering lucid dreaming when I was a teenager. Used to dreamwalk a lot. Minor telepathy came next (during waking hours, too). Then remote suggestion (again, while awake). But at this point it felt like I was a child playing with a loaded gun and I knew I was being "watched".

Anyway, it opens doors so be prepared. Personally, the doors I opened and my experiences made me put it on a shelf, walk away, and never look back... until recently.

Good luck and be safe.

I mastered lucid dreaming several decades ago. It is great. I do hear some voices on waking some times. Often I am told to wake up and I do and then someone comes to the door or calls and I am glad I paid attention. I call this my guidance. You just have to be quite enough in your mind to hear the higher voice. I think sometimes that some part of my mind is jumping ahead in the time line and sending back information to me.

Maybe the voices are our souls communicating with each other regarding what's supposed to happen next...in the script.

I often hear kind of random conversation when I'm drifting off to sleep as well. Sometimes I'll wake up and think "Why the hell was I thinking about that?" but it always sounds like other people having conversations nothing to do with me.

My best guess is that my brain is replaying all of the random data I heard during the day (T.V. shows, radio talk, things I read, etc.) and kind of processing it or 'saving' it into my memory, like a computer.

Then again... there's been some pretty good speculation of a collective (un)consciousness in this thread. It would be pretty cool if I was listening on other people's thoughts.

I think its completely normal to hear voices and see images of things you've never seen before when drifting in and out of sleep. But i think of it as logging off of the internet of consciousness and not onto it when you go to sleep.

We are probably hearing the voices 24/7 but we have been trained our whole lives not to perceive them and understand them, block them out with the other 90% of information we have been forced(trained) to block out and see only the narrow view that we perceive.

On a personal note i have experienced things in dreams that i have never even come close to doing in real life, so how do i know how to dream these things? How do my dreams know how they feel? The info is coming from somewhere.
