Consider the following list of desirable traits, excerpted from Reader's Digest:
o Brainpower: Knowledgeable, incisive and adept at problem-solving
o Temperament: Calm and rational in tense situations, showing grace
under pressure
o Courage: willing to take a stand and accept risks, regardless of political
and personal fallout
o Vision: Promotes large goals for America and policies to fulfill them
o Communication: Can articulate and "sell" a vision for the country to
everyday people
o Charisma: Has a dynamism and charm that encourages others to follow
o Integrity: Honest and trustworthy, engendering respect even among
political foes
o Experience: Savvy about the workings of government so goals can
become accomplishments
o Judgment: Has a track record of sound decisions based on facts, not
hopes or emotions

Other, generally-accepted executive selection criteria might include:
o Management Ability and Experience: The pragmatic aptitudes
that permit a person to plan, organize, lead and control; expertise
scalable to a national level.
o Diplomatic Ability: Ability to appropriately deal with sensitive issues
between people and countries.
o Economic Education and Experience: Demonstrates a solid
understanding of economics; useful in promoting the General Welfare
of the United States.
o Physical Health: Fit and trim; sets an example by following a healthy
eating and exercise regimen.
o Constitutional Knowledge: The Constitution is what POTUS takes
an oath to "preserve, protect and defend." Understanding and respecting
the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the later amendments is
mandatory!
o Life Experience: Schooling is good, experience is better.

One important area that is often overlooked is: emotional health. Power over others is corrupting and dangerous. If we must have someone in a position of great power, shouldn't it be someone without massive, obvious emotional damage? Shouldn't it really be someone who is emotionally healthy?

Characteristics of emotional health include:
o Compassion: Displays compassion for self and others; open to feeling.
o Self-Confidence: Displays poised and relaxed demeanor.
o A Balanced Life: Adept at juggling work, play, family and recreation.
o Resilience: Capable of bouncing back from adversity.
o Living in the Present: Old feelings do not drive present-day behavior.

The POTUS presides over the Executive Branch of our federal government.

There are only two requirements for the position of POTUS: minimum of 35 years old and a natural-born citizen of the U.S.

The core, constitutional duties of the president include:
o Chief Executive
- Enforce federal laws
- Enforce treaties
- Enforce federal court rulings
- Develop federal policies
- Prepare the national budget
- Appoint federal officials (ambassadors, judges)
- Grant commissions to all Officers of the United States
- Grant reprieves and pardons (except in cases of impeachment)
o Commander-In-Chief of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy, and
various state militias, when they are called into service
of this country.
- Direct national defense
- Decide whether or not to use nuclear weapons
o Deliver Status Reports
- Provide annual status report (The State of the Union Message)
to Congress.
o Foreign Policy Director
- Determine U.S. relations with other nations
- Host visiting ambassadors and state leaders from around the world
o Legislative Leader
- Recommend laws (or oppose them, via veto power)
- Work to win passage of laws in Congress
o Head of the political party
- Mold the party's positions on national issues
- Mold the party's positions on international issues
