US Air Force beefing up nuke, intelligence jobs

The new leaders of the Air Force acknowledged Tuesday that the service lost its focus and must work to mend fences after a slew of contracting and nuclear-related missteps.

Air Force Gen. Norton Schwartz, the new chief of staff, told Pentagon reporters that he plans to use the reinstatement of about 14,000 jobs in the service to bolster its nuclear staffing and beef up intelligence and surveillance.

The reinstatement of 14,000 jobs is ostensibly to rectify current understaffing that has led to recent nuclear-arms related mishaps. That's a very significant increase, however. You have to hope it has nothing to do with purposeful battle-readiness with respect to nuclear arms, particularly as reports of a serious, pointed US doctrine concerning preparedness to utilize tactical field weapons abound.
