Russia Warns Baltics, Poland To Pay For Georgia Stance

www.nasdaq.com
RIGA, Latvia (AFP)--Russia's ambassador to Latvia Monday warned the Baltic states and Poland that they would pay for their criticism of the Kremlin over the conflict in Georgia, the Baltic news agency BNS reported.

"One must not hurry on such serious issues, as serious mistakes can be made that have to be paid for a long time afterwards," Alexander Veshnyakov was quoted as saying by BNS.

Contacted by AFP, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in Riga confirmed the ambassador's comments but declined to elaborate.

Veshnyakov's remarks followed a joint statement Saturday by Latvia's President Valdis Zatlers and his counterparts from Estonia, Lithuania and Poland which called on the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to oppose Russia's "imperialist" policy towards Georgia.

More reason to not escalate this whole conflict. The Georgians made their bed now let them lie in it.

I understand your viewpoint, but you have to ask yourself, were they alone in their actions? Did we aid them or provoke them in any way?

This whole mess is crazy, Georgia started it, sure the Bush regime probably instilled in them the idea that we would back any of their actions no matter how stupid they would seem. The Russians called their bluff and are now punishing the Georgians for their stupid mistake. Now we have the Neocons/Warhawks calling for war to defend Georgia at the cost of WW3. No way, I'm sorry I feel bad for the Georgians, but I don't think we as Americans have the manpower, money, or moral high ground to dictate to Russia what to do.

I agree with you completely. I only wish our view of this matter would prevail in these matters, but with the current players at this war table...

I don't know. I've always thought how these times would play out and I didn't see this scenario as the igniter.

I only hope the mountains I live in hold back the big bombs to come...

The sound is off... Big deal. You're a funny one...

You'll be listening to the bombs in your back yard and blame it on your dog's farting...

It's nice to live in a dream world... I only hope you wake up sooner than later.
