Israel backs Georgia in Caspian Oil Pipeline Battle with Russia

www.debka.com

Georgian tanks and infantry, aided by Israeli military advisers, captured the capital of breakaway South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, early Friday, Aug. 8, bringing the Georgian-Russian conflict over the province to a military climax.
Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin threatened a “military response.”
Former Soviet Georgia called up its military reserves after Russian warplanes bombed its new positions in the renegade province.
In Moscow’s first response to the fall of Tskhinvali, president Dimitry Medvedev ordered the Russian army to prepare for a national emergency after calling the UN Security Council into emergency session early Friday.
Reinforcements were rushed to the Russian “peacekeeping force” present in the region to support the separatists.
Georgian tanks entered the capital after heavy overnight heavy aerial strikes, in which dozens of people were killed.
Lado Gurgenidze, Georgia's prime minister, said on Friday that Georgia will continue its military operation in South Ossetia until a "durable peace" is reached. "As soon as a durable peace takes hold we need to move forward with dialogue and peaceful negotiations."

intresting why Israel would poke its nose in it
or is it the fact that they know they can basicaly do anything as they will always have the US ready to sacrafice its men/women for them at the press of a button?

Interesting thing you bring up , yes why would Israel poke its nose into this mess indeed .
There is something about the timing with all of this that doesn't add up , could this be an orchestrated event meant to divert Russia before some action is taken in Iran ? I hope thats not the case because it could very well back fire .
I suppose one could have very well seen something like this happening with all the noise Russia has been making in the last few months . I am sure Israel knew exactly what would take place , the question is why would they wish to partake in instigating such an event ?

So the playing field contains Georgia and Russia, with Israel providing "military advi[ce]", and the United States, among other things, airlifting Georgian troops back to their homeland from Iraq. Cooler heads?

The sandline has been drawn.

WTF is our gov't thinking?? Since we are doing so well fighting in Iraq and Afganistan, lets see if we can get into a war with the only other country on the planet, with MORE nuclear ICBM's than we do.

Good Lord help these idiots.

Russia is involved with Iran who wants to take down Israel and the USA.

Israel and the USA is involved now with Georgia, who is taking on Russia.

No that hard to figure out.

If Russia can fight a war by proxy, Israel and the USA can too.

*queue USA and Israel are evil blather*

Save it.

Exactly. Thats all this is. Russia has been showing its hand with Iran and its proxies (Syria, Hezbollha etc) and this is the US and Israels way of saying "hey Russia, we can stir things up in your backyard too buddy".

Don't worry they will only use nukes if it looks like one side or the other is going to lose. So far the escalation of force looks to be pretty equal on both sides.

Hmm here is a interesting story from last year about Israel and Georgia

JEWISH COMMUNITY HELPS GEORGIA AND ISRAEL DRAW CLOSER
3/09/07
A EurasiaNet Photo Story. Text by Marina von Koenig and Nino Taktakishvili. Photos by Sophia Mizante

Russian trade and transportation blockades may have weakened Georgia’s economic growth, but the country has managed to secure significant foreign investments. Last year’s economic expansion of 10 percent, according to government figures, is due not least to the emergence of new economic partners, among them Israel.

Since the early 1980s, more than 80 percent of some 50,000 Jews living in Georgia have left the country, mainly to go to Israel, according to Tbilisi Jewish Community, an organization that functions under the auspices of American Jews Joint Distribution Committee, a non-governmental organization which assists Jewish communities worldwide.

Economic hardship or a wish to return to the Jewish homeland motivated the exodus, commented Zaira Davarashvili, deputy director of the Jewish Community House in Tbilisi, but a desire to assist in Georgia’s development is now bringing many Georgian Jews back. "Jews have been living in Georgia for 26 centuries," said Davarashvili.

Georgia has long taken pride in its Jewish community and its relations with Israel, but in the post-Shevardnadze era these relations have taken on a much more pragmatic dimension.

I dont understand whats going on here.
Georgia, attacks south Osetta,
south Osetta attacks back,
Russia provides men/material to assist south osetta in attacking Georgia.
Georgia declares war.
A day later Georgia asks for a ceasefire

Now, im certain Georgia KNEW, attacking south Osetta meant attacking russia, thus a russia retaliation.

Also, months ago the United States sent in Men/Material to train/assist Georgia's military.

So who's to blame?
What did Georgia expect?

Is this an attempt to send Russia's concentration elsewhere, while we prepare?

Why would a mouse attack an elephant, declare war, then ask for a ceasefire the next day?

odd happenings.

Here is a some what related story that you may find interesting ..
Israel warns Russia on S-300

Israel has warned Russia that it has an electronic warfare device under development that is capable of neutralizing Russia's S-300 anti-missile system and that if the S-300 is sold to Iran, it will use the device against it thereby exposing Russia's own air defenses.
If Russia goes through with the sale of its most advanced anti-aircraft missile system to Iran, Israel will use an electronic warfare device now under development to neutralize it and as a result present Russia as vulnerable to air infiltrations, a top defense official has told The Jerusalem Post.

It would seem that Israel is the one being used here to fight a proxy against Russia .

Israel didnt help capture anything, it was proven from the get go that when Russia got there it was all over but the crying.

That news website is one big propaganda machine.

No one took over jack and this was never over an oil pipeline.
Although Georgia wants you to think it is.

The minute people think it is is the moment we launch WW3.

A fight with Russia is a draft and a possible nuclear conflict,
Israels new websites are trash as far as Im concerned.

They do nothing but spread propaganda.

Crude rises on Georgia fighting

Crude oil prices have jumped by more than a dollar on fears that conflict between Russia and Georgia could disrupt supplies in the region.

US light, sweet crude was up $1.16 at $116.36 a barrel, while London's Brent crude gained $1.45 to $114.78 after prices had fallen on Friday.
