Fidel Castro has accused Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar of trying to deceive Spanish citizens over the Madrid bombings for political and election gains. Castro said that Aznar had evidence prior to the elections that Muslim Extremists committed the acts of terrorism but insisted on blaming the Basque group ETA. Castro, who is accused by the United States of harbouring members of ETA, said the synchronised blasts on four commuter trains had all the hallmarks of al Qaeda. A tape was reportedly found in which Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the train bombings that took the lives over 200 people.

Castro Accuses Aznar
"They are deceiving the Spanish people ... it is a most important factor in the elections on Sunday" because a majority of Spaniards opposed the war in Iraq, he said in the interview with a Chilean television channel taped on Friday night.

Might he not have some truth to the matter?

Might he not think that Al Queda did those terrorist acts? Not ETA?

After all Al Queda did say they did it, ETA are denying they did it.

Just because you dont like Castro doesn't mean that he might not be right on the subject.

Dont be blind to the subject. Deny Ignorance. Seek the truth.

To take the statement:

"when the Spanish government jumped to the conclusion it was ETA, they were mistaken"

and turn it into

"LIARS LIARS DECEIVERS MANIPULATORS!"

is bit much isn't it?

Well ya never know with politics now do ya?

The Germans thought hat when their Riechstag got burnt down it was terrorists because they were told it was for Hitlers self interest.

What's the difference to being told it's one terrorist group than another terrorist group for someone elses self interest?

It seems Kofi Annan is also being critical of Aznar and his party.
Annan Says Spain's Blaming ETA for Madrid Bombings Was a Factor in Election
Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Tuesday that Spain's initial insistence that Basque terrorists were behind last week's Madrid train bombings was a factor in Sunday's upset election victory by the Socialists.
But he said there were other factors including strong public opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq and an al-Qaida claim the bombings were punishment for Spain's support for the United States.

Annan was asked if terrorism affected the election which saw Socialist leader Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, an opponent of the war, defeat conservative Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, one of President Bush's staunchest allies.

"I think the events in Spain need to be looked at very critically," Annan told reporters
