Obama: America No Longer What It Once Was

A seven year recently threw Obama a curve by asking him why he wanted to be President?
Questions don't get any easier than this and yet he still stammered.

“America is …, uh, is no longer, uh … what it could be, what it once was. And I say to myself, I don’t want that future for my children.”

Another flip flop?
Last I heard he hated this country, now it's no longer what it once was.
What does he mean?
Does he want this country to return to the days of discrimination?
