Based upon Jak's post on the previous page, and
this...
Georgia initially claimed Russian soldiers had occupied Gori, a key city linking the western and eastern parts of the country, but officials later
said Russian troops were stationed nearby.
...coupled with earlier reports that Gori was abandoned and statements from Georgia's Security Counsil Secretary that Russia had not taken Gori after
all, it probably makes sense at this stage to assume Russian forces did advance into Georgia from South Ossetia, not just Abkhazia, but that while
they may remain in Georgia, did not occupy Gori.
Still, the situation is clearly tense and unpredictable.

Russia moves SS-21 launchers into Ossetia
Felt this should get linked into the thread. It seems Russia has moved missile launchers into the territory, and may be backing up threats regarding a
nuclear response to any action taken against them.
EDIT: Though from the article it seems they moved them in on friday and this news is only coming out now?

There is still no credible confirmation that Russian forces are in Gori or Poti. Please refer to the articles posted several pages back. Georgia
itself even says Russia has thus far stayed out of Gori.
However, that's the most geographically detailed map of the region I've seen yet in the thread, so it's still quite valuable! Thanks!

Looks as though all the western media outlets are pro-Georgia now, I found this bit of propaganda in BBC.
Day-by-day
Notice the report is quick to point out that civilians were hit in Russia's attacks on Military installations... but intentionally avoids the fact
that Georgia shelled Tshinvale... this report makes it seem like Georgia simply waltzed into Tshinvale without firing a shot.
Disgusting, this is how history gets twisted.
I'm not supporting Russia either. They've overstepped the boundaries of South Ossetia... but that's peanuts compared to what Georgia has
intentionally done to the civilians who lived in Tshinvale.
... and the media outlets have all but quietly forgotten how this all started.
[Edit to add]
You guys are going to love this... I wanted to write the BBC regarding the political bias of their news... the page I got read:
BBC Complaints.

Agreed, and a lot of it is sloppy journalism and a lack of understanding. A typical TV news report here for instance might say something like this:
"The Russian fighting has claimed over 2,000 lives..."
Without saying that the figure of 2,000 was quoted for S. Ossetian fatalities.
The devil is in the detail.

You forgot the news that Russia moved SS-21 in South Ossetia, those could be loaded with biological, chemical, nuclear or conventional warheads.
And of course the russian doctrine... if attacked by pin-point arms, it's considered as a nuclear attack and they will respond.
On the larger scale, NATO is about to blockade Iran this week, which IS war.
So I would say that NATO said to Georgia to start the whole thing to occupy Russia while NATO starts a war with Iran.
I hope we survive until next week...

More likely that Georgia was manipulated into acting and reassured that they would be protected if Russia reacted. This does seem to play into
NATO's hands if the Iran scenario is correct. Interesting theory.

We are witnessing what is, without a doubt, the largest and most obvious flurry of media manipulation and manufactured public opinion in modern
history. I hope everyone is paying attention, because what you're seeing is the cornerstone of conspiracy.
Perception is primary, reality is secondary.

This article largely repeats the news of a new Abkhazi military effort against Georgian forces in the disputed Kodori gorge, however it uses different
language when describing Russia's dismissal of the draft French U.N. resolution which may help illuminate Russia's terms for a resolution.
Russia's envoy to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, has already dismissed a three-point French peace plan put to the Security Council in a draft resolution.
Ambassador Churkin said the plan contained "no reference to Georgian aggression or Georgian atrocities".
news.bbc.co.uk...
This may indicate that one of Russia's terms for agreeing to U.N. mediation will be for any resolution to mention specifically what it views as (or
claims to have been) atrocities committed by Georgia in South Ossetia. If nothing else, this may delay a resolution as U.N. observers would likely
have to conduct some sort of humanitarian investigation in the region.

Bro, lol... i'm one of the biggest (somewhat rational) defenders of America in here...
With Iran taken down and Georgia in Nato... we will have complete surounded Russia and armed just about every direct border they have...
and honestly what has russia done in the last... 16 years until now but be realitively cool with us?

Diplomatic mood darkens in Georgia
No breaking news just a diplomatic cap
Worrying if you ask me
European diplomats and foreign ministers have conceded they will struggle to regain the initiative in the conflict between Russia and Georgia.
They talk in the darkest terms of a possible return to tensions the likes of which Europe has not seen since World War II.
Several have even compared events to Nazi Germany's annexation of the Sudetenland.
In more than 25 years covering international diplomacy, I have rarely seen such gloom and head-shaking over the activities of one nation - Russia.
