It seems that Nato, which is mostly controlled by the Eu should take control of this situation. Now I am an American, this does not have anything to
do with us, its your neighbor. You deal with it. Stop thinking that we, us Americans can at will do the will of you that scream for a solution. We
Amercians have to deal with what we have at home here to. Like electing a new president. Getting our finacials in order. Helping people , like we do,
does put a drain on all of here in the US. For once I would like to see all of the Eu stand up and do something. Now I understand the implications of
fuel from Russia and that should be why you do not speak up and offer any help to your neighbor. You are , in my mind spineless and cruel to let your
neighbor die.

McCain condemnation upstages Bush
It took four days and a growing chorus of criticism from conservatives before George W. Bush on Monday matched John McCain’s tough stance on
Russia. Having on Monday morning again been upstaged by the Republican presidential candidate, who had called for the US administration to come
together with its allies in “universal condemnation of Russian aggression” in Georgia, Mr Bush finally followed suit.

The President of Georgia is live on 'BBC live' now explaining what's been happening. He is also discussing Abkhazia.
[edit to add:]
He finished by speaking about the Russian build up on Georgia's borders, which has lasted months, and included incursions into Georgian territory.

Interesting, Right now CNN has a picture on the screen and is talking about the energy market and how the only other way to get to the caspian and
black sea oil fields is either "Through Iran or other countries with unstable governments" or Georgia and if Russia takes it that the oil will be
completely out of our control. And re-iterates that Georgia will not surrender.
But the UN claims that they want a ceasefire. Curious. And interesting to see the media tying it into the oil market and Iran finally.
EDIT: Oh! And they are also claiming that Russia is trying to Re-build the soviet union. Yes, the MSM is now officially charging them with trying to
re-build the SU! In fact stating that they are likely to move into other countries next...

I fail to understand the "puppet governemnt" mentality of some people on this board. Just because Georgia is a friend of the U.S. does not mean
they are a "puppet". Using your logic I suppose Brittain is a U.S. puppet as well.
Furthermore, It would definately serve Russia to re-absorb Georgia back into its empire. Don't forget that the guy in charge (Putin) is a former (or
perhaps current) KGB guy that is hell bent on restoring the communist Soviet Union.

Lets call a spade a spade... we started this
Not the EU, it has been US pressure all along to expand nato to Russias borders and US pressure throughout Eastern Europe to lay down our missile
defense systems there.
This is why Russia is really doing this
I for one am still an American and... taking responsability for our actions I think... is a good place to start in remembering what makes us a great
nation

CNN has just stated that we have a very high potential of being not just on the brink, but in the opening throes of a new cold war. Or at least a
re-flaming of the original.

"Georgia: Russians close off strategic Georgian port"
Source
"Russia's over-running of Senaki, a town 25 miles inland from Poti, has effectively shut down the country's biggest commercial port.
The move will, officials say, starve the country of more than half of its imports of key products like wheat, grain, tinned food and cars"
source
It seems to me, this is getting worse.

I think that a better name would be "auto-puppet"; they are not put there as a puppet for the US (in this case), they offer their services as a
US-puppet because they think that it's a sure way of getting to the top of the world.
In some cases they do reach the top of the world, like James Cagney in "White Heat"...

I have seen so many times statements from "officials" that turned out to be false that I think this is just one more of those statements.
Also, if at around 19:00 (Georgia time) they were not able to know if Gori was occupied by the Russians or not, I don't think that now (03:20) they
know what is happening in a city that is even farther from Tbilisi than Gori.
I will wait until tomorrow (I do not loose any sleep over this, but I have lost my days since Friday, what a way to spend my vacations )

Woah, guys, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Look, there's only a few things that need to be remembered here:
1) Georgia started it and lost.
2) It isn't called disproportionate response, but "shock and awe."
3) Russia is looking for WMDs. They haven't found them yet, but that's because Georgians buried them in the sand or carted them out to Azerbaijan.
Also, there were no border build ups by the Russians, or so says an anonymous U.S. official.
But the official said there was no obvious buildup of Russian forces along the border that signaled an intention to invade. "Once it did happen
they were able to get the forces quickly and it was just a matter of taking the roads in. So it's not as though they were building up forces on the
border, waiting," the official said.

Hmm, I don't know, I wouldn't pay much attention to what analysts are saying. About 40 or so pages ago I posted a YouTube clip of the Soviet anthem
just for giggles - but it's clear that analysts are saying that Russia are going to re-absorb the republics just to put a spin on it.
Now we're getting more US statements telling Russia to halt:
U.S. tells Russia to halt Georgia conflict
"Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in
the 21st century," Bush said.
Moscow snubbed Western pleas for a ceasefire, and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, taking a leading role in the crisis, criticized Washington
for casting Georgians as the victims rather than aggressors in the conflict.
"The Cold War has long ended but the mentality of the Cold War has stayed firmly in the minds of several U.S. diplomats. It is a real shame," Putin
said.
www.alertnet.org...
Well, I guess Putin still thinks the Cold War sentiments of the US didn't end at least.
