Yes, I know it is a "Pet Peave" of mine, but I was traveling around ATS tonight and looking at all the different Avatars and I noticed a LOT of newer members are in violation of the Avatar and Signature Guidelines.

While this may not seem like a big deal, the size limits...

GIF and JPEG file formats only with a maximum dimension of 160 pixels wide, by 320 pixels tall. File sizes are not to exceed 75k, and animated GIF's are allowed. (physical size can extend up to 400 pixels tall for images under 50k in file size)

Are in place as they effect bandwidth.

PLEASE!!!!

Everyone look at your avatars and make sure they fall within the required size limits.

If you need help reducing your avatar of choice, you can always contact one of the excellent artists we have here resident at ATS.. Even me!!

Member Art

Thank you all for your cooperation in this.

Thanks for the reminder Semp,

Have mine at 52.8kb. I think all the ones in my current rotation fall round that size.

It would be nice if we could pay points for larger avatar sizes.

Hmm I didn't realize we could go to 400 pix if the avatar is less than 50k.

Thanks for the bit of knowledge...

Is mine OK? I hope so. Sometimes I wish we would just do names without avatars or a real picture of yourself. I know, everybody won't go for that though. I love the art I see around here.

Yours is fine.

If anyone isn't sure their avatars are of acceptable size, just right click and hit 'properties.' It will give you the dimensions and file size.

SS: Yours is 160x243 and 38.72 KB so you are good to go.

Mine was a little oversized so I fixed it this morning.

Thanks for the thread, Semp.

If anyone needs their current avatar resized or tweaked, please feel free to U2U me and I will fix you right up.

How does one change the color of the font on the salutation? And make it a link as others have?

What do you mean by salutation? The subtitles some have beneath their user name? You can do that by purchasing a mini profile text color through your ATS store in the Member Center for 150 points. That is, if that is what you are talking about. I've never seen anyone be able to turn that into a link so I might be misunderstanding you.

Let me know and I'll try to help if you are referring to something else.

The salutation is the Signature section....at the bottom on your post...

You can just do your name with no avatar. There are a few members on here who choose not to have one.
As well as a few of us who do use real picts of ourselfs

Ah, ok. You are referring to your signature.

What I suggest you do so you can preview the text to make sure you did it right, is to use the BB code in the text box you use to reply to a thread. Of course, don't submit the post- just copy the code into your signature slot in the member center.

The text you want will need to be inside the color code and url code. Color code is selected using the pull down menu in the text box and the url code is found when you press the icon that looks like planet earth.

I have seen some PNG avatars with transparency and the format is supported widely. Why are these not allowed explicitely?

I found it strange especially since the site itself uses PNG for its own graphics in places.

Examples:

I guess the handbook just isn't extensively maintained.
