Don't know much about the recent satellites but the original NOSS (Naval Ocean Surveillance System) where in three's. They orbit the Earth at a
height of 1100km and form a triangle roughly 100km across. As far as I know they are still in existence and may account for this sighting...
God Bless some of you people!
I was hoping someone would just answer my question with out me posting but this is so close that I would like just a bit more so I have to wade in
here with the tin hat crowd.
I know what satelites look like, you can spot a ton of them in northern Minnesota and especially in the boundary waters. I saw the large triangle
formed by three normal looking satelites, but this triangle was more equal on all sides and an equal distance apart......this was October of 2004 so
maybe I don't remember it right. They were brighter and lower than most satelites I have seen and they were very far apart. I would have guessed at
least 100 miles apart rather than 60 but for all I know they were 5 miles apart.
Could a learned person tell me what kind of satelite array that would be and why I haven't seen it before or since? Please don't respond to this
post if you are going to give me some ET opinion.
Which also reminds me.....if the op saw what I saw then it would be pointless to take pictures. Do any of you have a good picture of a satelite going
over head? This is man made. I want a science answer based on reality please.
Why haven't I seen NOSS before? But if that was what it was than cool with me.

Well I don't think I would see 18 satelites at one time but you can post a pic just to compare.

The same night and about the same time you posted this I was walking around Glencoe, IL with some friends and several of my friends claimed to have
seen exactly what your talking about. Although I missed that sighting, I have seen lots of strange lights moving around in the sky. Last week I saw
what I assumed to be a satellite but then it made at 90 degree turn and shot off extremely fast.

I'm not saying I know for sure that the White Cloud (NOSS) satellites are the answer to this puzzle but it is something I personally would look
at.
Each of the satellites messures roughly three metres in length and are able to locate radio and radars (ship based) using triangulation, and can
identify naval units by analysis of the operating frequencies and transmission patterns. It used the TDOA ( time difference of arrival) technique to
accomplish this task.
I also believe there is a four satellite system based on the ELINT system primarily used for over the horizon targeting for warships etc. Like I said
before, I'm not making any claims but this could supply the answer to this puzzle.

Wow we got confirmation! Glenco is not far from here at all. Care to say what your friends said to you in more detail? Ilinois is seeming to have
a hot spot for these now eh?

Scott, could you u2u your 90degree satelite story to me?
( I just got tagged for 20pts for a one liner in another thread so I need to extend this one)
I am interested in knowing what you thought you saw when you saw it just prior to it zooming off. Did you think you were watching a satelite?
anything else odd about it other than the 90 degree thing of course?
....hey, if you want just post it here, I don't need to respond, if it sounds similiar enough I can just u2u you. ( I got good enough answers about
this triangle satelite formation and it is just too good to be true that I could also get my 1986 question answered too....love this ATS!)

I think the pictures posted by the OP are quite interesting. Granted, I'm not any kind of photo expert or analyst, but still. They look a bit too
large to be satellites in my opinion.

dude, that was great, thank you.
is there a way I can confirm that they were what I saw in Sept or Oct of 2004 in Northern Minnesota or is that an off the scale expectation to find
that? There were for sure 3 of them.

Seems there's been a lot of activity in the skies lately. On the 1st of Aug, I saw a white orb about 50 ft in the air fly by. It wasn't a shooting
star...it didn't come downward, it went across the sky.
Then last night I saw something else. The best way to describe it, I guess would be a huge glowstick zooming horizontally about 100 ft above treetop
level. It went really fast. I'm guessing the size of it was apx.50 ft long. It was a whitish yellow glowing color. It was low enough that it wasn't
an illusion of falling across the sky....it was moving very fast across the sky and just disappeared. I was walking back up the driveway from taking
out the trash and out of the corner of my eye, saw a huge bright flash/light that lit up the sky. So I quickly turned and looked up and saw it. I
have no idea what it was. It flew by and I got a 4 second or so look at it. It was rectangular, long and thin and glowing. Weird!

You saw this after my sighting on August 1st could of been the same object I saw.

It could have been. I can't believe how much activity there has been lately. I've been going out every night for the past week or so. I've
captured things in photos. Sure wish I could have got that thing I saw last night on film. From now on, when I go outside at night I bring a camera
with me.

Not in every case. If the objects were giving off its own light, that could explain the difference.

The Heavens-Above.com site is good for research. I haven't tried to go back 3 or 4 years in the listing but you can try. I might check into it later
if I have a chance.
On that site, to check NOSS, you have to know the IDs to check as they don't list them in the daily passes, or so it seems. For instance, if you are
interested in USA-160, you check passes for that satellite or object. You will get a listing for you location after using the 'passes' link on the
page for the object. I have identified NOSS passes using that method.
Hope that helps.
