The Pentagon has proposed to sell Iraq six C-130J airplanes made by Lockheed Martin Corp. and valued at about 1.5 billion dollars.
The Iraqi Government has also requested 24 engines produced by Rolls-Royce company, announced the Defense Security Cooperation Agency in a statement published Monday.
The Iraqi Air Force intends to use the airplanes to support its troops and also for humanitarian missions, said the statement.
The statement added that the contract would increase the ability of the Iraqi air force to coordinate with US and coalition forces in joint operations.
