I added the question mark since this hasn't been confirmed yet, but how cool is it that this could be the place where Shakespeare's plays were originally performed ?

It is also ironic that the discovery was made as the area was undergoing work to build a new theater.

news.bbc.co.uk...

An archaeological dig has recovered what is thought to be the remains of the theatre where Shakespeare's plays were first performed.

The Theatre was found in excavations by the Museum of London at a site in Shoreditch, east London, being prepared for the building of a new theatre.

It was one of London's first dedicated playhouses when it opened in 1576.

Its possible that it could be the first theatre or the remains of it, as the theatre was actually picked and carried across the frozen Thames one year as the rent was cheaper the other side of the river to where it is now. The staff DID dismantle it and physically carry across the river. WOW thats dedication for you, to risk life and limb walking heavy beams across ice.
