White House ordered CIA to forge letter supporting WMD claims

A new book by the author Ron Suskind claims that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein.

I read Suskind's book The Price of Loyalty. He's a great author. I'll definitely pick this title up. Not surprisingly, the White House denies everything. Mr. Suskind is a former Pulitzer award winning writer for the Wall Street Journal.

I just heard about this recently.

What I don't understand is, why did they fail to use it (the forged letter) effectively in the end? They used it a few times early on, then dropped it.
The neocon faithful would have lapped it up like cream, along with a lot of well-meaning dupes.

Was it because they didn't think they would get away with it, or due to some other factor?

I love the White House response, he really got their panties in a bunch, didn't he?
