Ninety million tonnes of water swept down the narrow valley into Lynmouth on 15 August, 1952, destroying whole buildings. Now, a BBC investigation has confirmed that secret experiments were causing heavy rainfall.

Looks more like a case of succeeding beyond their wildest dreams than anything evil.

Not surprising that documents and the like have disappeared.

Ah so when you kill someone "accidentally" it should be dismissed and the body hidden and hands washed free if anyone found out because , after all, it was not what was intended?

I am not at all surprised by this.

What gets me is this: Why does it take decades for stories like this to actually break through to the forefront? We're talking over 50 years since this disaster occurred.

That said, it is most unfortunate that governments would rather hide their dirty laundry, than hang it out in the open.
