My pufferfish act back there probably isn't what you think- and was totally unnecessary anyway.

But! In re: your excellent advice on unarmed man-hunting:

l love that song, and I dig the innuendo (way ahead of the "She-Bop" curve), but 20 years later it seems like sisters are kind of sick of doin' it for themselves.

"In fact, it turns out there are rather obdurate female longings in regard to dependency on men... catchy slogans about women needing men like fish need bicycles. What do you know: it turns out that fish are devoted cyclists. In fact, the problem these days is that the bicycles seem to be fleeing the fish..."

-Laura Kipness

Who knows? Maybe we'll see an uptake in shotgun weddings- with the bride instead of the father-in-law toting heat down the aisle in lieu of a bouquet.

When will this loneliness be over?
Muse, Map of the Problematique.

I've been with my woman well over half my life. It's a good thing. This is for ...well, he knows.

Not this sister. I fought hard for my independence, and it is the one thing that I won't or can't compromise on. Why would I? I love doing the things that I do, for myself, for others, should I make a pretence of incompetence and neediness just so a man can feel all manly? And that seems to be the requirement, despite all the mutterings to the contrary.

As far as fishes and bicycles go...a witty quote, but one far removed from actuality...there is a very big difference between need and want. I am all in favour of compromise and sharing the load, but that has to be a two way street, otherwise it's a hinderance, not a help.

Choo knows I agree with you.
My comments were cultural, not personal observations (especially from talking to ladies in their twenties- women who had to fight for it would be appalled to know how ambivalent their successors are). Personally?

I'd just like to see our differences honored, and our desires clearly articulated- needs have a way of articulating themselves.

Men don't help matters much either, let's face it, too many of them are stuck in a lock and load homoerotic mindset of trying to impress each other, and they forget that that ain't how the whole business works within an intelligent species.

I get you...personally, I don't even want my differences honoured, I want them enjoyed, know what I mean?
But yes, articulation of desires certainly helps matters move along nicely, but how explicit do we have to be?

I kind of feel that we make the whole business awfully complicated, when it's really a pretty functional process...I mean, what's with all the value judgements that we ladies have to put up with? The disproportionate number of negative labels that are applied to female sexuality in relation to male, speaks volumes, and those are as likely to be bandied about and reenforced by other women, as they are by men. What's that really about?

"If I had to go through it, then I'll make sure you have to endure it, too."

Same operative logic behind foot binding. Mothers do it to daughters. And women do it to other women, because if she has to have an eating disorder, or a botox habit, or any other of the practices by way of which a modern gal amplifies her femininity at the expense of her humanity, she's going to make certain other women don't get let off the hook.

That's my take, anyway.

When I first heard this I was convinced it was Jagger and The Stones but I soon found out that it's the great Van Morrison and Them.

No matter what it's a cracking tune.

I don't disagree with you, at all, but don't you think that status is a large part of it too? In the case of foot binding, and other female mutilations, such things were seen as increasing the girl's value, economically, in the transaction of marriage. Marriage was essential to a woman's status, amongst and over other women, we're looking back at a very strict hierarchial system, of women and between women. Right up until the first war even, in the West, a woman had significantly more social mobility than her male social counterparts, by marriage, or by becoming a mistress or concubine. Either way, much like the 'Pretty Maid', her face was her fortune. It seems to be that despite our emancipation from male domination, we haven't entirely emancipated ourselves from inter-gender competition, and ya know, it's letting us down

OH Please....Let it Shine!

Lamborghini Mercy....

Lyrics...

Hook]
Okay, Lamborghini Mercy, your chick, she so thirsty (Swerve)
I'm in that two seat Lambo with your girl, she tryna jerk me (Swerve)

[Verse 1: Big Sean]
Drop it to the floor, make that ass shake
Whoa, make the ground move, that's an ass quake
Built a house up on that ass, that's an ass state
Roll my weed on it, that's an ass tray
Say Ye, say Ye, don't we do this every day-day? (Huh!)
I work them long nights, long nights to get a pay day (Huh!)
Finally got paid, now I need shade and a vacay
(And niggas still hating) so much hate I need an AK
Now we out in Paris, yeah I'm Perriering
White girls politicking that's that Sarah Palin
Gettin' high, Californicating
I give her that D, cause that's where I was born and raised in

[Hook]

[Verse 2: Pusha T]
Yeah, it's prime time, my top back, this pimp game, ho
I'm red leather, this coc aine, I'm Rick James, ho
I'm bill droppin', Ms. Pacman, this pill popping-ass, ho
I'm poppin' too, these blue dolphins need two coffins
All she want is some heel money, all she need is some bill money
He take his time, he counts it out, I weighs it up, that's real money
Check the neck, check the wrist, them heads turnin', that's exorcist
My Audemar like Mardi Gras, that's Swiss time and that's excellence
Two-door preference, roof gone, George Jefferson
That white frost on that pound cake so your Duncan Hines is irrelevant
Lambo, Murcie-lago, she go wherever I go, wherever we go, we do it pronto

[Hook]

[Interlude: Fuzzy Jones]
Well, it is a weeping and a moaning and a gnashing of teeth in the dancehall
And who no have teeth gwine run pon them gums caw
When time it comes to my sound, which is the champion sound
The bugle has blown the many times, and it still have one more time left
Caw the amount of stripe weh deh pon our shoulder

[Verse 3: Kanye West]
Let the suicide doors up
I do suicides on the tour bus
I threw suicides on the private jet
You know what that mean, I'm fly to death
I step in Def Jam building like I'm the #
Tell 'em, "Give me fifty million or I'mma quit"
Most rappers taste level ain't at my waist level
Turn up the bass 'til it's up-in-your-face level
Don't do no press but I get the most press, kid
Plus, yo my bitch make your bitch look like Precious
Something about Mary, she gone off that Molly
Now the whole party is melted like Dali
Now everybody is movin' they body
Don't sell me apartment, I'll move in the lobby
Niggas is loiterin' just to feel important
You gon' see lawyers and niggas in Jordans

[Verse 4: 2 Chainz]
Ok, now ketchup to my campaign, coupe the color of mayonnaise
I'm drunk and high at the same time, drinkin' champagne on the airplane
Spit rounds like the gun range, beat it up like Rampage
100 bands, cut your girl, now your girl need a bandaid
Grade A, A1, chain the color of Akon
Black diamonds, backpack rhymin, co-signed by Louis Vuitton (Yup!)
Horsepower, horsepower, all this Polo on I got horsepower
Pound of this cost four thousand, I make it rain, she want more showers
Rain pourin', all my cars is foreign
All my broads is foreign, money tall like Jordan
