l love that song, and I dig the innuendo (way ahead of the "She-Bop" curve), but 20 years later it seems like sisters are kind of sick of doin' it for themselves.

As far as fishes and bicycles go...a witty quote, but one far removed from actuality...there is a very big difference between need and want. I am all in favour of compromise and sharing the load, but that has to be a two way street, otherwise it's a hinderance, not a help.

Choo knows I agree with you. My comments were cultural, not personal observations (especially from talking to ladies in their twenties- women who had to fight for it would be appalled to know how ambivalent their successors are).

Personally?
I'd just like to see our differences honored, and our desires clearly articulated- needs have a way of articulating themselves.

The disproportionate number of negative labels that are applied to female sexuality in relation to male, speaks volumes, and those are as likely to be bandied about and reenforced by other women, as they are by men. What's that really about?

"If I had to go through it, then I'll make sure you have to endure it, too."
Same operative logic behind foot binding. Mothers do it to daughters. And women do it to other women, because if she has to have an eating disorder, or a botox habit, or any other of the practices by way of which a modern gal amplifies her femininity at the expense of her humanity, she's going to make certain other women don't get let off the hook.
That's my take, anyway.
