This guy is nothing but trouble..i dont see what all these young people see in him...he never did anything for anyone, hes an asshole(idiot) and all he talks about is change..sounds like lip service to me...i just dont see why people like him...not to mention i personally dont find him charismatic at all...just a big mouth full of bull#......if he gets elected well be in worse shape that we are now..mark this post on that. I mean could someone explain what it is he stands on politically? aside from just using all the catch words people like to hear?

this is idiotic. i hate george bush, honestly is there any intelligent person on this board? few and far between i say... this is not a thread for bikering who is better republicans or democrats. there are 34,u89,567,490,509,234 other pep rally politics threads if you want to do that.

The point of this threadis that the obama campaign is purposefully jamming religious undertones into their campaign. i find that sickening.
i will also agree that hannity is disgustingly servile to george bush. it is really embarassing to see him croon over bush. but hanity isnt running a presidential campaign obama is. and this cult behavior has got to stop!

i mean if you want more evidence of obama cultism just look at some of the responses here. personal attacks on me for pointing out psychcological trickery and manipulation in his campign. i am non biased in this campaign im not even voting. i just want people to see they are being brainwashed and in a cult, and you people want to crucify me. open your minds people, open your eyes. its very obvious.

thank you. exactly my point. no one seems to know what he stands for. even the few things he has laid out that he stood for he has backtracked on...like the iraq war. he is pure fluff, a puppet, a figurehead.

did you see the video i posted where the US senator who supported obama couldnt even name his acomplishments? and look at the cult behaviour in this thread!

Let's just say I disagree with the premise in the OP. I'm not a heavy TV-watcher, but I do watch some. I failed to see much of religious overtones in Obama-related programming.

I mean, hello, Bush said that God told him to invade Iraq... That's hard to beat. If Obama ever referred to God, the message was more subdued and subtle by a light-year.

look bush is quite possibly the worst president in all of human history. i fail to see how comparing obama to him proves anything. thats like comparing obama to a 3 day old turd, what are you trying to prove? he should be better than that! haha.

plus i will also agree that bush used religion to get elected. BUT DIDNT WE ALL SEE WHAT A DISASTER THAT WAS!!! why would we want to repeat such a mistake. no matter who wins we need to be skeptical of them. this is not a time for "HOPE" this is a time for reality.

also did you see the official campaign flyer in the OP?

My faith teaches me that I can sit in church and pray all I want, but I wont be fufilling Gods will unless I go out and do the Lords work.

Are you serious? You must not be following Obama or his media coverage very well than.

The very fact you're STILL repeating an old and tired quote from Bush is proof of your cult like behavior. There are at least a dozen quotes from Obama and people around him, likening him to jesus or a new messiah!

How in the world is Obama going to "heal our souls"?

Hello, I admitted I'm spending moderate amount of time on watching news, and I'm not fixated on Obama (your mileage may vary).

Not it's not. I just use it as a benchmark, by which whatever "religious" message Obama delivers pales in comparison.

How in the world is Obama going to "heal our souls"?

I wouldn't know and don't care too much for him. However, after the grueling exerience of 8 years under the Idiot-in-Chief, wars on two fronts (on the middle class and on Iraq) and economy struggling, maybe somebody around is a healer for gossake.

You have yet to prove your point, though. You show one senator who supports Obama and either refuses to name an accomplishment or cannot name one. One man does not make a cult. All you've shown proof of is that the is an aura of excitement and devotion to one candidate. HE DID NOT purposefully jam religious undertones into his campaign.
In fact, he discourages such behavior from his supporters.

Of Cults and Politics

At the point that Obama does what neither Voldemort nor Huckabee nor even Clinton is willing to do by specifically disavowing and punishing excesses from his supporters, Obama has a sound case to be found innocent of the overheated and selectively-applied “cult” charges levied against his campaign.

Second, it is also worth noting that “cult” is more of a reverse designator than a neutral descriptor. By that, I mean that invocations of “cult” usually say far more about the person using the word than they do about the group they are describing. The word is usually used to describe religious groups, but hardly all of them. Rather, it is commonly used almost exclusively to describe groups that exist outside the boundaries of social acceptability. The use of the word is expressly to impose that outside, fringe status.

And Obama supporters are neither outside the boundaries of social acceptability, NOR do they hold some sort of "fringe status".

The use of “cult” against Obama is much the same. Its use reveals that the user does not like and/or hopes to advantage some other campaign by tainting Obama’s, but it says nothing objective about its actual target.

A campaign flier professing his faith does NOT make a cult.
It's a campaign flier appealing to religious people. He's not afraid of his religion, but it's not the central theme of his campaign, either. It was one flier in the primaries.

Source for that fact? Actually, Obama has had to work hard to gain support among the black community. He has even been accused of 'not being black enough'. www.time.com...

ok proof 90% of black voters voted for him...and it isn't cause he worked hard ...lol
elections.f... oxnews.com/2008/05/06/exit-polling-shows-wright-controversy-economy-matter-to-indiana-north-carolina-voters/

snippet to prove my point incase you fail to click the thread.

Obama won 91 percent of the black vote in North Carolina, which made up 33 percent of the electorate. He did equally well with black women and men, no less than 90 percent each.

thus he wan'ts race brought into the issue...why so he can flat get his cult follower's to back him.
a cult in my opinion breeds hate towards white people in America.

im so sure 91% of the voter's of the same color...was so overwhelmed ...at all his great deed's he has done in life..to prove he can be a great president.

alot are voting because of his skin color..
thus the cult follower's.
i showed you proof 90% of black vote for obama now show me where he worked hard for there vote's as you implied to me..
deny ignorance...

he wants race brought into he main light..
it's a untapped resource for hatred..the black community will vote for him if he said he ..he is a secret gay..that sex's up G.W.B..and say's he will make sure to disarm america's defense's..

they would still vote for him..why because he is black...
and thus the cult following begin's..

now can you see my point how the race is the fuel for the cult behavior?

A land where leaders would be chosen by the use of logic and reason and chosen by the people. A place where leaders would not be appointed by the elite and would not be worshipped blindly by the people. sadly today this is no longer the case. sure politicians have tried to use religion to their advantage before in the past, but never did a politician try and create a religion around themselves, at least in america. there are some examples from history, none of which are particularly attractive... think roman emperors, think Hitler.

[edit on 4-8-2008 by TheRepublic]

The use of logic???

You are implying that I am illogical because I believe in Liberal ideas??? Einstein was a liberal buddy!

Second. I also recall Obama having the most votes in primary history... You stated-- "chosen by the people"--- implying that citizens did not vote for Obama, this statement is misleading and false!

Third. -"Appointed by elites"-??? Intellectual dishonesty. If you can not see that then I sight a hatred and/or lack of logic as you motivating your . Once again citizens voted for him...

Fourth. Blindly worshiped? I can sight many, many many anti Obama threads here and half a nation that hates him as you do. You are making an assumption that an all Progressive minded voters are completely without opinion, researching skills, intelligence...

A whole bunch of us have a different opinion then yours...
Shall we vote for a man who does not the legislate how we believe?
IS that logical to expect some thing different on your behalf?
Shall I vote for a man who holds different values then me?

NO!

So my option is OBAMA.

You are helping to swift boat Obama, same thing, different man, different day, different argument, same effect...

Create doubt, put that wedge in and spew it until it sticks.

If you want to talk about main main stream powers that be... Someone's washed and it ain't me! Paying for internet

news.aol.com...

HITLER??? COME ON DUDE!

God all these rightwing leftwing zombies. can anyone think outside of the damn box? oh yeah and obama is real liberal when he talks about keeping our troops in iraq and possibly attacking iran and pakistan. i guess you obama cult people are some sort of special liberals.

you like to liberally apply death and destruction all over the middle east, because a black guy supports it. hypocracy at its finest. disgusting.

You said they voted for him solely because he was black. Do you have proof of their reason for voting for him? Don't you think black voters have the capacity to make a choice based on the issues? Do you think skin color is all that is important to black voters?

Why did 75% of black voters vote for Bill Clinton? Solely because he's black?

Source

In a New York Times/CBS News poll conducted July 8-11, 75 percent of blacks supported Mr. Clinton

Yes... I'm beginning to see how race is a pretty big factor in this cult behavior, all right.
Apparently sexual orientation is a factor as well.

You actually are proof of the OP's point.

Cult (as defined by the merriam-webster's online dictionary):

1. formal religious veneration
2. a system of religious beliefs and ritual
3. a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious
4. a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator

Ding Ding Ding!!! I'll stop at *4* bc we have a winner!!! He is helping to promote this idea of terror bc he wants you and everyone else to believe that he has the cure......... which ultimately will lead us to becoming a full socialistic state not only here in America, but around the world.

I sure did love my individual rights and will be sad to see them thrown out the _

I only have one point...
The reason Black people are voting for Obama is not because he is black.

Its because he is not Republican and not John Mccain!!!

I ask you what good will has the Republican party built with the black community?

Their not stupid.

And why would they vote for a name who voted down on the passing of MLK day???

Thats Martin Luther King JR... As in John Mccain did not vote for the national holiday!

..he is a secret gay..that sex's up G.W.B..and say's he will make sure to disarm america's defense's..

and what does this mean??? That reads funny, like someone who visits tha chicken shack to often...

I'm looking at your "evidence". It is lame and totally insufficient in making the point you are trying so desperately to make. You charge that Obama is responsible for purposely inserting religious undertones into his campaign that encourage a "cult-like" following.

And one Senator is your "proof" of the above?
