I'm sure there must be a few of you here so I thought I'd ask ... even if you are not from Skye all info would gratefully received (thanks in advance).

I visit my friend (who lives on the island) 2 maybe 3 times a year and she once told me about a legend of 'shapeshifting' in Stein (Waternish) that continues to present day. In fact the very first time she took me there a hare ran across the road right in front of us, as we were coming into the village (quite synchronistic I thought) !!!

I know the locals are quite tight-lipped about this story but I would love to hear what (if any) information you might have on this legend in this specific area ... I find the whole thing fascinating.

I'm not from Skye but descended from such and the story in the family group - given to producing witchy finish-your-sentences-for-you know-it-all-beforehand how-did-he-do-that types - is that we got that clever stuff from Skye, where, the family said, such is thick on the ground...

woody you might find some help here the scottish sure do love their "fairy" folk and stuff nearly as bad as the irish. funny how they are very protective of them

Thanks for the reply ... and me too.
I'm pretty sure there won't be that many people from Skye on here ... hell, there aren't that many people on Skye.

But I thought there may be a few mainlanders or folklorists *sp* (not even sure if that's a word), who'd heard the tales.

I've also seen it called "Biast Bheulach" and "Odail Pass Monster".

Hey Gordi, that information is fantastic. I have friends who live on the Isle of Skye and this will be one to go check-out with them, the next time I go for a visit.
