I took a look at that site, and my first thought was.... Ohhh why can't it be blocked here, in the states.

Then, I actually started reading some of the articles, and now I'm glad it's not blocked here..... That stuff is pure comedy gold!

Works fine for me, as confirmed by several other members (South West GB). I know that the conclusion is that this is based on some fact, which was blown out of proportion. Making a mountain out of a mole hill, so to speak.

But can anyone say publicity stunt? I (probably like many other Brits and at least one who has posted) have never taken the time to visit the website before...

And, btw, the reason I have not been to the site before is that [from what I've read regarding it], I do not consider it a reputable source. This mistake just further confirms that... (so maybe it was a genuine mistake / product of an over active imagination - kinda shooting yourself in the foot there).

Thankfully, regardless what BT and other evil ISP's do there are ways around the way they block sites. I can understand them blocking porn sites etc but i cant imagine them getting away with blocking anything else such as news/conspiracy site as of yet. Thing are not that bad for them to justify that yet.. are they?

Actually they can block anything they want. And have been doing so for many years. The usually policy in fact is to only permit access to certain sites. After all, why should an employee need to access the internet whilst at work?

You're confusing the common policy of employers restricting internet access to their employees whilst using work computers, with the wholly idea of IPSs restricting access to certain sites to their paying customers.

12.45 pm here in Northern Ireland using British Telecom Broadband, Infowars is loading.
I hope Alex states why he said that UK was blocked.
he's passionate, but sometimes he's just plain weird.

I really do wish that people would find things out for themselves instead of blindly accepting what is posted here as gospel!

Alex has not claimed that the United Kingdom is blocking the PrisonPlanet/InfoWars sites. The article in question relates to St. Pancras Railway Station blocking those sites. The Wi-Fi company in question at that railway station has since suspended its services - no idea why.

The issue has NOTHING to do with the United Kingdom government.

No wonder why I think we are all doomed... no one checks for facts any more.

A bit of a coincidence that all the featured stories on infowars are about internet censorship, and suddenly there are rumours about blocking the site.

sounds like viral marketing to me.

Either way, regardless what is blocked and by who, the blocks can be circumvented.

Well really.. typical Infowars blowing everything out of proportion.

You can tell what has happened is this - the administrator is taking a proactive approach to protecting his network and blocking every website by default and then unblocking sites that they know about or more likely from a list built into the software of "popular and safe" websites. This saves the administrators from having to know about every single dodgy website available out there and stops them getting the blame for a number of things such as:

  • Someone getting a virus
  • 345,232,123 illegal porn images
  • 9 billion songs
  • etc

I also note that Inforwars is censored, because my comment which said pretty much the same as this never appeared.

can everyone in UK stop checking now!

also, this isnt about an employer blocking employees internet, its about free wi-fi (ie for the public) in a train station blocking alt news websites, and probably a load of other sites as well. and as the service is free, surely they can choose to block what they like! it is odd that the service has now been withdrawn tho...wonder if this site is/was blocked in st pancras ?

people really need to READ on this site! and for the record, alex jones IS unreliable!

"As we reported yesterday, major transportation hubs like St. Pancras International, as well as libraries, big businesses, hospitals and other public outlets that offer wi-fi Internet, are blacklisting alternative news websites and making them completely inaccessible to their users."

www.infowars.com...

So listen people, he is talking about censorship at certain places that offer wi-fi. Public Wi-fi should not be able to filter your internet for you.

When we end up with Internet 2, there will be an ultra restrictive filter put on the internet. We will have to pay for each different site as if it were a television channel.

In my opinion this is a really big problem for freedom of speech. Those of you who think this is a fake story, it really is true, and they really want to kill our ability communicate with each other freely.

I think we need to scream and yell until we get some attention on this matter, because I value the hell out of being able to tell people what is wrong in the world.

SCREW YOU INTERNET 2
