Something I was thiking about, since this was in Canada after all.

The Wendigo,
en.wikipedia.org...
It is a malevolent cannibalistic spirit into which humans could transform, or which could possess humans. Those who indulged in cannibalism were at particular risk, and the legend appears to have reinforced this practice as taboo.

Windigo Psychosis is a culture-bound disorder which involves an intense craving for human flesh and the fear that one will turn into a cannibal. This once occurred frequently among Algonquian Indian cultures, though has declined with the Native American urbanization.

and some more
All cultures in which the Wendigo myth appeared shared the belief that human beings could turn into Wendigos if they ever resorted to cannibalism[9] or, alternately, become possessed by the demonic spirit of a Wendigo, often in a dream. Once transformed, a person would become violent and obsessed with eating human flesh.

Any thoughts?

Dude, that's so friggin' weird. I thought I saw "wendigo" as I scanned through the thread here, but when I looked more closely, figured my eyes were playing tricks on me since no one had actually used the word.

So then I thought I might post something about it, but figured no one would know what the heck I was talking about.

I'm looking up some more on Wendigo Psychosis, which appears to be a nice psychiatric clinical term for demonic possession by Wendigo. I read that an outbreak of Wendigo psychosis happened in the 1970s in Canada, but havn't found anything else about it.

If this had been the 1800s some of the First Nation tribes would have demanded that this guy be burnt alive until even his bones were ash due to wendigo possession. Apparently the only exorcism for wendigo possession is death by incineration. I have no complaints with that happening to the guy in modern times. Bones to ashes.

Chris,
I agree, but so far in the investigation, this man has shown no predetermined behavior that explains the sudden actions.

Zindo

He may have not shown any predetermined behavior but, just as it sais on wikipedia, most serial killers (just as an example) have some kind of Antisocial Personality Disorder although they usually are not psychotic.

en.wikipedia.org...

Thus, they can seem completely normal to everyone else in society. Therefore, from a psychological standpoint, it can be almost impossible for anyone to determine whether or not there is any kind of predetermined condition.

George Carlin states in his last HBO special:
"Imagine that. Sociopaths have high self esteem. Who woulda thunk".

Some of the most pychologically unstable people in society seem completely normal. And even though they may have serious issues, they are intelligent, they know how to blend into society, and they know how to manipulate people into not knowing anything wrong to begin with. Alot of times, as history has shown, alot of these sick-minded serial killers aren't suspected of anything until they are caught. Until they confess, alot of people may not even believe it because this person seemed so normal before.

But, at least in my view, anyone who is completely normal is pretty frikkin wierd. Everyone has their quirks, issues, and hard knocks. If you are completely sane and normal all the time there is probably something seriously wrong with you. A doctor probably never tell you that, but I think most people here would agree.

The entire reason serial killers get away with all the killing is because noone suspects anything. They are too smart to initially get caught and they are usually extremely good at blending in with normal society (regardless of the psychological problems).

I'm not saying that this guy was a serial killer but I'm just using it as an example to make a point. But for all we know this guy WAS a serial killer and we just don't know yet.

TO EVERYONE SAYING ECSTASY WOULD NOT CAUSE THE KILLER TO KILL TIM MCLEAN, THIS IS ADDRESSED TO YOU:

In theory, you guys are right, for most, normal people .. taking an E pill will not cause them to flip out and kill someone.

HOWEVER..

If the person who takes the drug is mentally ill, being that the drug has HEAVY psychoactive properties.. it can have an unpredictable effect; even sending a psychotic man who's otherwise not having an episode INTO a psychotic episode, due to the stimulant nature of the drug as well. Mental illness is entirely unpredictable, add drugs and people act WEIRD.

For example, I knew of a guy who seemed totally normal, but whenever he would take a shot (he was an H-addict), he would think he was taking a nap while actually cockeling like a chicken or a rooster, mouthing undecipherable clusters of sound, with one odd word making sense every few minutes, for the entire time until it wore off. Then he'd "wake up" and say, "I just got a good little nap" .. he had NO IDEA .. and his roommate, my friend, was afraid to tell him about him, and ended up moving out because they had problems.

So a drug that normally does one thing to everyone else, can cause a totally random, sometimes violent, effect on a person who is mentally ill, off in the head for some reason, or ON PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION OF A PSYCHOLOGICAL NATURE. Not so much the common anti-depressants or the sedatives, but the stranger, rarer ones that psychiatrists prescribe for mental illnesses.

I totally believe this guy was on a bunch of drugs when he killed the kid. And where there's a group of people doing Ecstasy, believe me, there's all sorts of other drugs there too, because people who party like that do a few different substances, including sometimes meth / coke, really weird hallucinogens.. and sometimes even expiremental drugs.

Think about it. What other precursor is there to this incident?

Its a good point and I thought about it, but after I looked into it, I found he never did use scissors to hack off the pieces of flesh, it was his knife, so I'm not convinced scissors were involved at all.

As to the knife, do we know how big it really was? Because tbh, when I go out, I carry a knife! I really do, granted its no hunting knife, its only a 3" blade but still, I know a lot of people that carry knives on them in public and yes that even includes hunting knives.

So we can't assume he was packing a butcher knife in his bag and not just a self defense/personal knife because we don't know.

If he was under the influence of any drug, ESPECIALLY PCP, it could have been enough to possess him into using his knife.

You can't say with certainly what effects a drug will have on ALL individuals. I knew a guy who literally lost his mind from a hit of mescaline back in the 70's, his psyche was just too fragile. I also knew a girl who did the same thing, she didn't lose her mind completely but after taking her first and only hit of LSD she had major head problems for the next 7-8 years that I was acquainted with her. So there are a myriad of things that can go wrong when people dose themselves with drugs concocted in a trailer park.

Sonya,
She may have been adevout Christian because part of her mind might have felt that the only way to fight her 'minds delusions' was to trust in her religious beliefs. Right or wrong, many do just that when faced with terrible circumstances they realy do not understand and are to frightened to actualy bare they're souls to anyone.
