In the last 5 years gas prices have gone up 50%, half of that in the last 2 years. I saw a pie graph that explained where your money goes and had to wonder, are we funding terrorism or the war on it?
They list profits as only 3%. The rest being eaten up by crude costs, refining and taxes. Could some money from the crude costs make its way to terrorists? Could the inlated taxes be used to fight terrorism? And if there is a way to funnel money off in this manner, how does that make you feel, as gas is a necessary commodity for most people?

I think terrorism at the pump is brought to consumers by the EPA and other govt agencies.
One of the culprits is the &(%$* "formulas" needed for various regions. This is an old article, but the formulas are still with us.
"WASHINGTON To prepare against a regional gas price spike that hurts Wisconsin consumers, U.S. Senator Herb Kohl today pressed the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to respond immediately if fuel prices begin to skyrocket in the region. During the last two Spring seasons, when gasoline formulas are shifted from winter to summer blends and refineries decrease production to perform maintenance, gas prices in the Upper Midwest have climbed higher than fuel prices in other regions. In June, 2000, Kohl and other members of the Wisconsin Congressional delegation launched a Federal Trade Commission investigation when gas prices shot up over $2.00 a gallon in some parts of the state. They also called on the EPA to allow refiners some flexibility in making the shift from winter to summer fuel. Christine Todd Whitman, the Administrator of the EPA, testified today before the VA-HUD & Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee on which Kohl serves."

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - "High oil prices rose further Friday, after the Madrid bombings revived security fears and further strengthened a market boosted by soaring Chinese demand and persistent concerns of a gasoline supply crunch in the United States."

Another terrorist ploy by big busines in America:
"Wild price swings become more common as refineries close DOUG ABRAHMS GANNETT NEWS SERVICE
Drivers nationwide should brace themselves for the kinds of gasoline price swings previously seen mainly by Californians, in large part because there are fewer U.S. refineries trying to keep up with increasing demand, experts say.

Energy companies have closed more than half their U.S. refineries since 1981. Oil companies say they closed unprofitable refineries and that environmental regulations have made it difficult to build new ones.

But consumer groups and some lawmakers question whether energy companies closed refineries as a way to stifle competition and increase profit.

The result of fewer refineries turning crude oil into gasoline is that any unplanned maintenance, pipeline problem or even routine seasonal changes in gasoline blends can send prices reeling.

think it isn't just the terrorism / war on terror and everything connected with it in some way.
it is because of the short supplie and shrinking supplies of crude oil. and okay people say because of this there are wars and this lead to terrorism we are in a visicous circle
but there will be more trouble ahead. don't be scarred of the price now but later on. usa is much cheaper for people using petrol diesel and other oil products Europe is much more expansive.

Canadian or UD dollars??

So, no one thinks the increasing gas prices are the result of government regulations????? (or domestic terrorism ,as I like to call it!)
All these alleged additives to clean up the air, while truck and older vehicles continue to belch noxious fumes into the air? And, the auto industry continues to build behemoth gas-guzzling SUVs that many consumers continue to prefer to drive. While other countries continue to pollute to their heart's content? It's not like all the bad stuff stays only where it was emitted.
How about the closing all these refineries, setting us up for more of a gas monopoly?
Where's the outrage???
