Pockets, I think you need to read your History. The Brits were in that area for many years. I think your comments are disrespectful to a soldier who is doing his best. Wake up and smell the roses!
Read the history of Afghanistan.

So if we haven't served we don't have a say, that is a very bad attitude and why I and many other's hate squadies, self loving short sighted brain washed islamaphobe's

You missed the whole point. Until you have served and been on the battlefield, you have no right to point a finger at your fellow countrymen doing a job they were sent to do. It matters not wether you agree with the conflict or not when it comes to the soldier doing his/her job.

Personally I do not agree with the conflict but I am not going to condemn a soldier for doing his/her job no matter if they be from the UK, US or UN. They were sent and believe me I didn't care if a fellow soldier yelled GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!!! and the day was ours because of it. You might do well to inform yourself on what it means to be a band of brothers.

God bless that young soldier for yelling "Long live Texas, remember the Alamo" because of it the day was theirs.

if there weren't people like you, we wouldn't have to go to any battlefield...

sorry that you cannot understand this simple fact

The original intent of the post was to convey the message of a brit soldier on the battlefield in Afghanistan using the ""remember the Alamo" quote from a US movie he watched.

That was a moving statement. It brought their team together and they won the day and lived to fight another day. These political quarrels in the thread are semantic disruptions. The point of the thread I observe is that those brit soldiers came together and fought off being overrun by Taliban fighters.

I do not agree with the war in Iraq but I was and am fully in agreement that the West can not allow a stronghold of militants a place of refuge to train in terrorist tactics that will end up killing civilians. We need to put them down but at the same time we need to quit occupation of Muslim nations or they will always have a reason to hate us.

We are much better off in my opinion to do our operations with greater stealth and with fewer signs of our occupation. If we dedicated more of our resources to resolving the root of the problems that provide instigation to these extremist we will find ourselves in a better situation than if we just use military force alone.

We are never going to reach some of these extremist but we can make their recruiting a lot harder if we do not have so much innocent blood on our hands. It makes their recruiting a lot easier if we keep bombing and killing civilians.

Every screaming crying mother in Iraq or Afghanistan that picks up her dying child blown to smithereens by a US bomb gives reasons to hundreds of onlookers to hate us and vow to kill us in revenge. We have to attack the extremist with pin point attacks that only kill our intended targets otherwise we make recruitment just far too easy for the Taliban or AlCiada.

Occupation leads to massacres like this White Phosphorus attack in Fallujah.

They might fear us when we do this to them but they also hate us and many will dedicate their lives to the fight against us as a result of these atrocities wrought against their friends and relatives.

I'm sorry you got "Thread Jacked" by a bunch of liberal passive haters. May God Bless your friend and All Who Serve!

And for all you passive libs around the world who think America is nothing but an instigator, your dream may come true in the early weeks of this coming November. For if Obama wins this election he will most assuredly bring the troops home and the liberty you enjoy today will be in jeopardy. And when it happens may I suggest you move to France, I promise you no one there will pick up a weapon to defend your rights.

You know, when I read replies like this, it makes me sad. We all know that yes, you do have a valid point, mainly about how those wars in the east are all made up by our fellow politicians, and that there are monsters fighting it. But honestly? When someone posts a story about the success of a good solider, fighting for OUR cause, you should be happy, not condemn him. It's been said many times before, and I won't hesitate to say it again. These brave men and women don't go out there in hopes of securing the wallets of the elite, but rather, (most of them) to serve and protect our country.

Just because maybe you live an oppressed life, constantly being "violate" by the Government, it doesn't mean that it is happening to all of us, and most certainly not those soldiers. Have you ever thought for just one moment that maybe this British Commander in Afghanistan is fighting for what he believes in? Do you honestly believe that he is out there to kill children, harm civilians and cheat the middle eastern people out of their right to enjoy life? I must admit that I don't think so. I have respect for someone how fights for me, sticks up for me. Sure, the war is corrupt, but alot of soldiers don't see it like that. They see it as an opportunity to repay the country for (what) good it has done. Admit it, the life you have now, a paying job, the opportunity, a wife, a car, children, is alot better than being a slave, training to be a terrorist, or a poor rice farm with no pay. Despite our corrupt government, our standard of living is still higher than 3rd world countries, and there is no denying that. So maybe, just for once, you should be thankful, that people are willing to defend that fact, so that me and you can live the bloated, selfish lives that we do.

2500 brave men and women from my country are there, fighting for what the rest of us are too afraid to do. Not for one second am I going to turn my back on them.

Define Our cause

Please try . I would love to hear what Our cause Is.

By your logic we should be praising the terrorists for fighting for what they believe in . And every allied troop that dies should be celebrated. You argument has no legs . Just like allot of children now in these country's that have been ravaged by these savages.

2500 brave men and women from my country are there, fighting for what the rest of us are too afraid to do. Not for one second am I going to turn my back on them.

Yeah we FEAR it cause we will go to jail for LIFE or get EXECUTED. That's what happens to murderers you know .

Just because maybe you live an oppressed life, constantly being "violate" by the Government,

Everything in this paragraph is BS . Dont tell me who i am . If it make you feel all warm inside believe it . But know YOUR WRONG!

So maybe, just for once, you should be thankful, that people are willing to defend that fact, so that me and you can live the bloated, selfish lives that we do.

Tell the Indians they should be thankful we let them have land at all . (oh that's thanksgiving )Because we definitely needed it more to live our bloated life's. F-you! . Justifying murder for your own greed . I hope you rot in hell.!

I already stated that you have a valid point. The people that start the wars, mainly, the politicians and powers at be, have a much different agenda on their minds than the soldiers that fight for it. And you know what? I was wrong. Our cause is exactly what is wrong. Our cause is to further the living standards of the few that "control" us, such as the war for oil and the plans to invade Iran. It will do nothing for us as citizens, yet somehow make lives better for politicians. You're right, it is not good, and it is corrupt.

But can I ask you, how can you have no compassion for those overseas, most of them who are oblivious to the hidden plans of their Government? You can't blame them for their ignorance, because for some of them, wanting to join the military to serve their country was their passion, their dream, a way of giving back. For some, it was a financial solution. They all had different situations.
Now, I'm not about to say that there is no war crimes, but it would also be irrational to say that all the soldiers over there are killing innocent civilians. Now, I in no way support the majority of the motives of the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, especially when their Governments tell us they don't need the help, but the military is still there regardless.

Maybe I just can't comprehend how someone could accuse all of the men and women in the military of being corrupt and wrong, sick and monsters, and maybe for that, I am arrogant. But you know what? I'd rather appreciate the work they do, defending the morally right interests of my country (and yes, there are plenty of morally wrong interests too) and be ignorant, than to put them down, turn my back, and assume the worst of all of them.

Yes, soldiers are puppets, but in such a case, how can you blame them? That's like accusing the blue collar worker who works at a steal foundry, manufacturing tank chassis to fuel the war machine of being a monster, when really, all he is trying to do is put bread on the table for his family.
A lack of compassion is what is brining the world down.

Your a funny guy . In this country ignorance of the law is no excuse. By your logic . The girls that killed for Manson were innocent . As they were just pawns in a sick game.

Twist it anyway you like my friend . you say there fighting for our "cause" our "freedom" "what they believe in" then there just pawns.

Which is it ?
Seems to me the people who CHOSE to stand up against an OCCUPYING force to PROTECT there country and people . Fall more into the patriot. Category then stupid (ignorant) idiots off killing people in another country.

Who's really fighting for what they believe in here ?

But can I ask you, how can you have no compassion for those overseas,

I pose you the same question. Do yourself a favor and read the article linked in my tagline please.

defending the morally right interests of my country (and yes, there are plenty of morally wrong interests too) and be ignorant, than to put them down, turn my back, and assume the worst of all of them.

Then you just sold out everything this country was built for . Congradulations.

Please define our "moral interests"

Mods: Please induldge me for a moment for an off topic post.

WOW! After reading your posts on this thread I searched your other "contributions" to the ATS community and discovered (not to my surprise) you seem to be brimming with hatred for your fellow man.

I speak for myself and perhaps many others when I say this. For those of us who don't harbor your hatred for our fellow man, and use this forum to share our uplifting and inspiring stories, I/We would prefer that you find a more appropriate place to peddle your junk.

When you click on a thread and see the posts of people genuinely praising our brave men and women in uniform, I hope you can respect their intentions and resist the temptation to defile the thread with your verbal diarrhea. Perhaps one of the hundreds of other "One more reason to hate America" threads would be a more constructive and welcome place for your vile spewage.

Although reading your posts it's evident you are a non-believer, may God Bless you all the days of your life.
