This thread isn't intended to show the differences between Obama and McCain. It's not about Obama or anyone other than John McCain! I'm not a fan of this whole "vote for the lesser of two evils" nonsense so don't try and subscribe me to it.

I can't stand John McCain, and the reason is because I used to like him so much. I was behind him all the way when he declared his candidacy in 2000 and I was sorry to see Bush win that nomination. I was impressed by his "against the grain" attitude and especially impressed with the value he held for the environment. Unfortunately, John McCain today is not John McCain of 2000. Hell, he isn't even the same guy he was when he declared his candidacy!

John McCain has always allegedly been against lobbyists, but why are there so many lobbyists involved in his campaign? If he hasn't been a friend to them, WHY is he in bed with them now?

Phil Gramm, McCain's former chief economic advisor, said that we are a nation of whiners, that there is a mental recession, that it's essentially all in our heads. REALLY? Why has there been negative growth? Why has the unemployment rate gone up? Why do i make more money than i did last year, but HAVE less money today? I understand that McCain disagreed with his comments but the guy admitted that he isn't an economy guy, so obviously Gramm was the go-to guy for those issues. Bottom line, if nobody had a problem with what Gramm said, McCain wouldn't have either.

McCain is a traitor to his beloved environment, that's for sure. He has been in staunch opposition to drilling in Anwar and off the coast of this nation for many years. Until recently, that is. He had to wait until gas got to FOUR DOLLARS per gallon to change his mind, of course. I don't know about you, but everyone i know started suffering when it got to 3. He could have changed his mind then if it was just about the price of gas, but the environment was important to him at $3 per gallon. Just in the past couple of months he has flipped. I personally think we SHOULD be drilling anywhere and everywhere possible. It's the fact that he flipped on this issue and thinks he can take credit for being late to the party entirely.

I whole-heartedly believe that if McCain does win the presidency, he is going to have A LOT of favors to pay back. I want a president who isn't going to have all of those things hanging over him.

So, with everyone running around asking who another candidate is, i'm over here wondering who is this McCain guy? He sure isn't a guy i'm familiar with.

obama isnt a us citizen......... are u serious..... i dont like obama for his political postitions but he is most definately 100% an american citizen....my question to you is are you an american citizen and if you are shame on you for not knowing that a non us citizen or even a person that immigrates and gains american citizenship is NOT ELIGABLE TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT

sadly obamas politics are even further left than hilary's even still i to am apprehensive about the outcome of this election. It sure would be great if we had a decent candidate to vote for..... and voting for the lesser of two evils... no thanks pick a third party candidate or write me in at anyrate you have more than just the two choices find out more about the third party candidates or write in a person you believe will do well though you may not impact the election at least you have the peace of mind knowing you voted for what you believed in and didnt settle for "the lesser of two evils"

I hear you. I don't like McCain much either. The current voting process is binary - black or white, one candidate or the other. If I vote, I must choose one candidate over the other. It's true I could write in a vote or waste a vote on the "Ralph Nader" of the Republican candidates.

How I'm resolving this in my mind is this way. Our founding fathers went through a lot of crap to establish an independent nation based on the principals where everyone has a say in the electoral process and every state, regardless of its size, counts. That's how the electoral college got created, so that all states were represented somewhat equally despite the vast differences in their size and population.

Brave men and women volunteer, fight and die to protect our constitution, our freedom, our rights. My right to vote, and yours, is one of them. These soldiers who have died didn't run off the battlefield when the situation got bad, and neither will I. I won't leave the battlefield and not cast a vote. I feel to do so would be to dishonor those soldiers. So I will make a decision, and I will cast my vote.

At this moment I am seriously crossing my fingers that McCain has the good sense to put a true conservative Republican on the ticket as his vice president. That will make me feel a lot better about casting a vote for McCain. Unless some ground breaking scandal happens that exposes McCain as a practicing racist or something equally as damning, I will still vote McCain, nonetheless, because I see this as an election of Capitalism/Democracy versus Socialism/Marxism. For me it's a no brainer.

As for who I would like to see as VP? Sure, I'd love to see Fred Thompson on the ballot, but something happened last week, at least that I had heard about on the radio, that makes me really want someone else. Apparently prominent evangelical leaders are warning McCain that if he puts Mitt Romney on the ticket as his VP they and their "troops" will abandon the Republican ticket on Election Day.

The only reason evangelical leaders would come out and say this is because of Romney's faith as a Mormon. There is nothing, NOTHING I say in Romney's personal religious beliefs that would prevent him from performing the duties of the office of VP and do it well. The fact that evangelical leaders are resorting to childish ultimatums just makes me want McCain to flip them the bird and put Romney on the ticket straight away.

That was confirmed here (www.huffingtonpost.com...).

Ok, now that doesn't sound as ominous does it? But it still gets the point across of how he has dropped a constituency that the OP feels part of.

If you're interested in the specifics of the economic report for July, don't hesitate to visit. After a bit more reading I found a pretty alarming statistic in the amount of people who have had to get part time jobs to compensate for lacking hours, full time work, or decent pay. The amount of teenage unemployment also rose to 20%. So, with our educational system taking a dump and less teenagers using their time to work, what do you think they're doing?

You're right about the economic growth in the second quarter, but you should also take note that we're just NOW finding out that the US economy actually SHRANK at the end of last year (thanks for the misinfo, bush admin!). Now we're finding that growth in the second quarter was weaker than expected.

All of these things don't point to a pleasant economy. The main jobs that have dropped off are in construction, manufacting and service industries. With all the homes on the market, construction isn't going to improve. Manufacturing i can't speak to so i won't.

I do, on the other hand, know MANY waitstaff employees. When people tighten the ole' apron strings on the budget, they cut out luxuries. Even if people go out to eat the same amount, they certainly tip less. There's a whole subculture of the US labor force that is making seriously like half what they were making last year. How do you think that influences THEIR budgets?

We're in for some rough waters up ahead and i have to be honest, i'm not rushing to the voting booth so i can pull the level for a guy who has 1) admitted he is not an economy guy, and 2) suggested america's poor SELL STUFF ON EBAY to get out of poverty.

OH. I forgot to mention McCain-Feingold and his little bragging point about reaching across the aisle for Campaign Reform. Basically, McCain wears that on his chest like a badge of honor. He wants to talk about how he was involved in campaign reform to limit 527's, right? George Bush took advantage of 527's in the 2000 campaign, I believe the total bill (both parties) was OVER $500 million. THAT is why McCain got involved in campaign finance reform, so that wouldn't happen.

So what's McCain doing now? He is taking advantage of the loopholes IN HIS OWN LEGISLATION. How ass backwards is this guy?
