I know people who just joined seem iffy but I've been looking at this forum for about a year and decided to join cause I saw something incredible. About a half an hour ago(12:10am'ish) I was taking my dog out for it to pee in the backyard before I went to bed and something caught my attention. I saw these lights that looked extremley like stars moving in all kinds of formations at a slow pace in the sky. Most of the formations looked like V's. I was watching these stars move for about 20 minutes over my house, I must say I must of seen a hundred of them fly above my house. Didn't hear any plane noise or Helicopter noise, no noise at all infact. I live in Glenview, Illinois and I don't know what I saw..

I'm in the Toledo, Oh area, and I keep looking out to see, but so far nothing. Do you know which direction they were heading?

Oh I think it was heading north up to Wisconsin.

Sounds like fireworks to me but I guess it's possible you seen some type of flares from a military exercise.

Another possible though less likely explanation is something breaking up in the atmosphere it happens quite a lot but you would have to be quite lucky to see it .

Well, I'll tell ya, I'm north (Fox Lake, Il) and I just came inside. I was outside for a good 20 minutes and I got a good crick in my neck now, thanks. It took a good 5 minutes to get my vision all adjusted, but, I did see a few meteors through a thin, thin cloud cover. I saw no "formation" stars at all.
North, eh? I may have to go back outside. You're in Glenview? I gotta say, you have a serious light pollution issue from where you are compared to me and the cloud layer took care of that pretty good. How bright were these formations to see them so close to the city?

I'm from aurora, IL. Don't worry, lots of UFO and other strange sightings around here lately. I walked outside shortly after reading your post but it was cloudy. I've seen plenty of stuff around here, though. Remember, Chicagoland is home to two of the largest Natl Labs in the Midwest! Makes ya wonder WTF they actually do there? They gotta be bored with colliding particles by now.

Fireworks-didn't hear a sound, just the crickets.

Flares-The nearest airport(O'hare) is 20 minutes away but I doubt flares can move now.

Atmosphere-Maybe, but man I must of atleast saw 100 of these pass my house..

Haha I must of seen the same shooting star as you didn't mention it though. The lights were dimly lit but very noticeable, you know it looked liked the same way stars are lit.

Ok, i'm usually a serious skeptic about this sort of thing, but this phenomena is quite amazing, watching the video that someone posted a link to, if you fast forward it to around 24 mins you can see alot of footage of all these objects.

At first i thought them to be stars but after watching for a while it is clear they are not. Has anyone ever heard of this before? i for one would like to know more about this.

The only thing i find curious is the fact that if they are in the sky, so clear to see, why have there not been thousands upon thousands of reports of these things??

exactly my question - until we find some more evidence or eye witness reports i don't buy his story.

I don't know I maybe exaggerating from all the excitement, but it seemed like their were a lot of these in the sky. I'll take pictures of where I saw it later and post it here.

As an amatuer astronomer and avid sky watcher if you stare at the sky long enough with your head tilted up, eventually everything will appear to move. You are losing your ground or stationary reference when you see only sky and can give the appearance of movement...

I saw the same thing over a year ago while watching fireworks. My girlfriends parents saw it as well while we were watching the fireworks. I don't want to hear how they are fireworks(Unless you can explain how fireworks can just linger at airplane altitude). They didn't make any sound either. They didn't break formation except for a few that lingered away and went back to their original formation spots. Does this sound similar to what you saw?
