Earth-like planets around Alpha Centauri?

I have a feeling there are life bearing planets right next store.

And if astronomers keep up the research concerning Alpha Centari, we shall soon have some information.

see this article about the closest star system to earth:

Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to our Solar System, should harbour detectable Earth-like planets, according to a new study by astronomers at the University of Santa Cruz.

If we landed on an extra-solar planet to have a looksie, it would not surprise me in the least to see silicon based lifeforms, or lifeforms of a calibre that could not exist on our own Earth.

Changes in atmosphere, electromagnetism, gravity all play a part in how life is formed and what its use is. The sun, while important to our particular way of life, may very well be dangerous or even deadly to another.

Fantastic find! Of course the next step will be to develop a way of detecting whether these habitable planets are indeed inhabited! If they are the right size and in the right region then that is a good start. But they will also need to harbour the right minerals and so on in the right quantities. It would be fantastic if they did turn out to harbour life though. And only a few lightyears away!

Very true. There is a phenomenally wide scope for the development of life, partly because we still don't fully understand exactly what 'life' is and what it needs (or doesn't need) to form.

Give it time mate, people come and go on an irregular basis in this forum. Sometimes people will not log in for a week due to their own busy lives.

Ive beenb thinking about these things the past few days.
Been thru a Appsurgery and have some time to recover.

::
Lets say we DO find a planet with earthlike caracter
Maybe within +/- % larger or smaller
Water
Oxygen

Look at life on Earth

Head
Eyes
Ears
Mouth
Nose
Arms
Legs
Some even have wings

Pose this planet is "inteligent"
Pose this civilisation HAVE the
abillity to spaceflight. Radiosignals
or other ways of comunication.

They should look like us or atleast similar...
Maybe taller if the mass is lower..
Maybe more muscular if the mas is larger..
Might beverry dark in skintone if the planet
doesent rotate that much..

And so on and on and on.....
