Thank you for your post. I was reading all through these posts and it seemed that several went off track or hi-jacked the thread. The USS Freeedom is in fact, the first Littoral combat ship in the Navy. It's a new breed designed to sail close to shore and do beach assaults. The Freedom uses the RAM (rolling airframe missle) system. It is capable of deploying two helicopters. It's propulsion system is not propeller, it's jet pump driven by a Rolls Royce MT-30 gas turbine with 96,550 horsepower.

But the Freedom isn't the only LCS. Here in Mobile, we just Christened the USS Independence. gizmodo.com... It's a tri hull type boat built for close in support and beach assaults. It's armament is also awesome. Both boats will be capable of launching forces to a beach front.

Our boat, the USS Independence was built at Austal and is solid aluminum, good for mine warfare and was built by General Dynamics.

Elegant design and a long way from the traditional warships of the 1950s and 1960s. Then the art of warfare has changed dramatically.
