I have just noticed probably the worst post ive ever seen on ATS, it was a 2 liner yet it had a star. Honestly, theres no way anyone else would have done it
so im guessing you can star your own posts? Doesnt that take away the point of stars?

seems odd to me

Wouldn't it be funny if it added to your post that you tried to star yourself.

I'm sure there's a few sock puppets here from time to time, and if they talk to themselves and praise themselves, they probably flag & star themselves.

I don't really get it, but I guess they feel better about themselves thanks to their self therapy.

Lol, that would be brilliant

It could say "this muppet is craving attention and tried to star himself"

your posts cant be that bad that the only person that would star them is your self and anyone that you pay

I have searched but not found. What is the point of giving a post a star? Do you get extra points if starred? I have been doing it to show appreciation but was wondering if it had any other effect.

Thats the only reason, to show appreciation and to say, I agree with this idea.

Stars are a way for members to pat other members on the back. it's just a nice way to say thanks for contributing to our community.

I tried to star a post more than once and had an error message at the top left hand corner of the page. No doubt there are those here who are star groupies who star each others posts. This is probably more likely with threads though. "Um, noooo, you do me first."

It's not about the points, it's about the quality you bring to the site. This isn't yahoo answers.

I seem to recall in a recent thread a certain someone wondering where his star was?

There is a way, only because the way ATS is set-up. You can just create another account, and log in with the other account and star yourself and flag yourself. But, that is unethical isn't it.

Seems kinda strange since I think flags are worth more than stars, but that's my opinion.

Anyways, flagging your own thread only gives you 1 flag (obvious enough), flagging your own thread only makes yourself look like your craving attention (unless your thread is genuinely good, you can flag your own thread IMO
)

Against T&C to have two open accounts. I've seen people banned for it. Especially if they are using the accounts to gang up on someone, star themselves, etc.

I always flag my own threads. Of course it's good enough to flag. I wouldn't have bothered to write it otherwise. Plus it shows up in the "most recent threads I've flagged" column. Of course, you can tell that I flagged it myself when I have one flag and no stars.

No it was nothing like that... it was an inside joke relevant to the thread... you had to be there
