Latest theory: D.B. Cooper was college professor

www.2news.tv
OGDEN, Utah (AP) - An attorney who is writing a book about the D.B. Cooper investigation claims the legendary hijacker who vanished from the back of a passenger jet with $200,000 in ransom in 1971 survived and returned to his life as a college instructor in Ogden.

Federal investigators are aware of the claim and are treating it like more than 1,000 other leads they have checked out over the last 36 1/2 years. They're skeptical that the late William "Wolfgang" Gossett pulled off the heist many others have claimed to but were found to be hoaxes.

I live in Idaho now and a long time ago while working with the Feds. on a BLM project, a guy told an interesting story.
He said that D.B. did make it to the ground but broke a leg. He then stated that a 'mountain man' type found him and killed him and took the money and buried the body. It is also rumored that some of the bills were used in Orting, Wa. and a few other little towns. Any thoughts.

I've never heard that theory, actually. The most interesting theory I've heard surrounds the finding of a bag of money by some kids along the Columbia river almost 30 years ago. That money was supposedly verified as being from the case, but the condition of the money and the way it was found apparently weren't consistant with it having been in the river for 9 years. Then a woman in Florida claimed that she and her husband had visited Seattle a year or so later and he had taken a drive to that exact same spot along the Columbia river and had been searching for something... he later confessed to her on his deathbed that his real name was "Dan Cooper."

It's definitely an amazing case and part of me kinda hopes it's never solved just because of how interesting it is to speculate on.
